Job Description

Job Summary:
The Maintenance Manager will oversee and lead the maintenance staff and manage the maintenance activities for Vest and report progress to the Plant Manager. Working closely with Maintenance Supervisor Production Manager and Plant Manager the Maintenance Manager will be responsible for the planning and coordination of all maintenance activities in the facility including the development and implementation of maintenance programs and procedures managing department expenses tracking progress reporting to senior leadership.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervises a team of Maintenance Electricians. Maintenance Mechanics Electricians Maintenance Supervisor Chief Engineer and Tool Crib Attendant.
  • Monitors operations and activities of the maintenance department; identifies opportunities for improvement; provides recommendations concerning process changes; and implements improvements.
  • Plans and lays out maintenance work projects; monitors and controls supplies and equipment; orders supplies and tools as necessary; prepares documents for equipment procurement; participates in the bid process for maintenance and repair projects.
  • Responsible for the hiring and training of maintenance department staff.
  • Organizes and oversees the schedules and work of maintenance staff.
  • Ensures all performance evaluations are conducted in a timely and constructive fashion.
  • Handles discipline of employees as needed and in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the daily operations of the maintenance department
  • Supervise electricians maintenance and facilities staff including hiring training personnel development etc.
  • Determines and recommends equipment materials and staffing needs for assigned operations projects and programs; participates in the annual budget preparation; prepares detailed cost estimates; maintains all maintenance records and prepares routine reports of work performance
  • Works with Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate the preventative predictive and corrective and reactive maintenance schedules.
  • Training and overall supervision of employees within the maintenance department.
  • Negotiate contracts with outside vendors for of maintenance work.
  • Ensure operational efficiency of electrical equipment and mechanical systems through timely inspection repair and Preventative Maintenance.
  • Provides daily work order instructions.
  • Ensures maintenance and repair work is completed correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Inspects work in progress and completed work of assigned employees and contractors for accuracy proper work methods and techniques and compliance with applicable standards and specifications
  • Communicates equipment problems or breakdown information to Plant and Production Managers
  • Ensure that approved operating procedures are always adhered to.
  • Promotes the development of quality improvements through the initiation of process improvements.
  • Troubleshoots complex operational and maintenance problems; corrects or directs the correction and repair of operational and/or equipment problems.
  • Performs the most complex maintenance duties as needed and provides technical oversight to the maintenance team.
  • Supervises installation of new equipment as required with regards to electrical wiring fixtures and junction boxes etc.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable codes requisitions government agency and company directives as relates to plant operations.
  • Ensures work area is in a clean and safe condition.
  • Complies with company CAL/ OSHA safety policies and regulations.
  • Promotes and adheres to Vest workplace safety polices and standards.
  • Responds to emergency situations as necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  • Ability to read analyze and interpret technical manuals schematics wireways and conduit
  • Strong problem solving reasoning motivating organizational and training abilities are used often.
  • Strong mathematical skills budgeting profit/loss concepts percentages and variances are utilized frequently.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and computers
  • Working Knowledge of:
    • Motor controls
    • 3 phase motors
    • Wire sizing and termination
    • Electronic Assembly processes
  • Bilingual in Spanish Required
Education and Experience:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • 10 years verifiable experience in supervising and managing an electrical and maintenance team in a heavy industrial environment preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven Effective management skills
  • Proficient in MS Office AutoCAD Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and MS Project or other project management/tracking system.
  • Alan Bradley PLC Certification preferred
  • Comfortable working in a fastpaced environment
