The Williamsport Area School District is accepting applications for an anticipated Title I Reading Specialist for the 202526 school year. The District is seeking qualified candidates to fill a grant funded position and will have responsibilities of working directly with students within the Title I Reading program. Position is based at AndrewJacksonPrimarySchoolor at the determination of the Superintendent salary as per the current contract schedule.Masters Degree in Reading with an awarded Reading Specialist CertificationK12 is required.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR WASD EMPLOYEES:
The District agreed to amend its message sent to WEA members on 4/13/18 regarding Article 41 of the new CBA and bidding on vacancies within the district. The criteria used for determining eligibility when applying for posted vacancies is seniority date. This date is a reference to the employees start date as a permanent employee with the district.

BASIC FUNCTION
The Teacher/Reading Specialist plans and administers the instructional and remedial reading program and classroom operation in compliance with guidelines and regulations determined by the administration Board of Directors state and federal agencies. He/she will create an environment that encourages learning motivates students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to establish a firm foundation to perpetuate the learning experience through the middle school and high school levels. The Teacher/Reading Specialist will utilize all resources available to establish a cooperative relationship with parents staff members and administrators to support each students opportunity to learn and grow in his/her educational experience.
The position of Teacher/Reading Specialist is a 188 day position and shall include active participation in the schools operation to support a positive learning environment. This position reports to and is evaluated annually by the Building Principal and/or his/her designee.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The requirements for this position are a minimum of a bachelors degree and appropriate Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) certification as Reading Specialist and qualifications prescribed by law to include Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The Teacher/Reading Specialist will demonstrate proficiency with the WASD reading curriculum benchmark assessments PA Core Standards and appropriate assessments (Elementary and secondary levels). He/She will strengthen his/her abilities by reviewing innovative programs supported by best practice and research. He/she will demonstrate a thorough understanding of how children/young adults acquire literacy skills and strategies and will be able to articulate how interventions support this development.
The Teacher/Reading Specialist must be able to articulate the school and district goals regarding the educational and remedial reading program to staff students parents and community members. He/She must possess the knowledge pedagogical abilities and attitudes necessary to be a successful scholar decision maker and agent for curriculum and program enhancement and change. He/She must be aware of and comfortable using computer and technological applications as educational tools to include utilizing Email Microsoft Word spreadsheet and curriculum based software.
