Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Support outreach efforts that represent its people programs and activities to audiences both within the institution as well as external audiences around the world. This person will regularly write articles features social media posts and video scripts. They will also help produce and edit innovative and engaging digital media and help monitor manage and grow the departments social media channels.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Develop edit and publish written copy including news and feature articles social media posts internal newsletters video scripts etc.
  • Conduct inperson or virtual interviews for articles and videos.
  • Maintain social media content calendar and ensure posts are deployed correctly and by daily deadlines.
  • Manage social media engagement and analytics.
  • Ensure that all external messages and graphics are compliant with University of Iowa/UI Health Care brand photo/video editorial and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate and liaise with Department UI Health Care and UI communications and public relations teams to ensure information aligns with strategies and assist in extradepartmental efforts when appropriate.
  • Coordinate and conduct photo shoots/opportunities for the unit and for events; edit and share as appropriate on social media and in other communications.
  • Seek out ways to enhance department reputation and highlight expertise in the field.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy of content across multiple digital platforms and in written materials.
  • May assist in the coordination/preparation of strategic communications plans in support of a project program department or college/unit.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations about message development and implementation tactics.
  • Track projects in the Communication divisions project management software.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications Marketing Journalism or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 13 years of related healthcare business or education program/project management experience.
  • Experience writing professional news and feature articles.
  • Experience in editing with strong proofreading grammar and spelling skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word PowerPoint Excel and Outlook).
  • Demonstrates experience multitasking and working with a variety of projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a team setting.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge/experience working in health care or scientific setting.
  • Experience using Monday or other project management software.
  • Experience with graphic design and outofthebox tools such as Canva.
  • Experience with photo and video editing tools.
  • Proficient working knowledge of social media platforms.
  • Experience creating and posting professional content to various social media channels.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies procedures and regulations.
