Job Description

The behavior specialist is a schoolwide position that proactively works with all students who need either periodic or prolonged support to be successful in school. This position provides behavioral support to meet the needs of students and faculty in all school settings. The behavior specialist develops and implements direct support and interventions for students who are in behavioral or emotional Garrison the behavior specialist works closely with a behavior paraprofessional along with student specific paras. The behavior specialist is also part of a strong and supportive building team consisting of two school counselors the school nurse and administration. This position is fast paced and allows for flexibility and creativity within the day with support from colleagues. The right candidate will have a great sense of humor perseverance compassion and be organized and a selfstarter. Other duties may be interdisciplinary collaboration with community agencies and school and facilitate SEL initiativesDevelop a schoolwide intervention program for students who have been removed from support with guidance to pupil assistance team Deans in working directly with with parents to communicate inschool efforts and to provide followup individual counseling FBA (Functional Behavior Assessments) and Behavior plans as with development of written behavioral plans for students referred through the pupil assistance team or special education support and instruction in the area of social and behavioral skills to students in class or small group and facilitate school adjustment counseling groups for students as individual counseling as identified on the students IEP teachers in implementation of IEP objectives and data collection systemsParticipate as a member of the pupil assistance and provide training for staff on a variety of mental health topics as department and administrative meetings as deemed composite endofyear summaries for students and implement alternative social programs and and enter discipline data.
