LOCATION: WHITEFISH LAKE FIRST NATION #128
REPORTS TO: PAKAN SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
TERM LENGTH: 1 YEAR TERM CONTRACT: FULLTIME EMPLOYMENT
Job Summary:
Whitefish Lake First Nation #128 a Cree community in northeastern Alberta is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Inclusive Education teacher/coordinator
Key Responsibilities:
Ability to develop and assist in developing Individual Education Plans (IEP)
Provides case management services for students with exceptional needs
Provides instruction consistent with the students IEPs utilizing strategies methods and materials appropriate to the students learning needs
Develop short and long range lesson plans
Develop materials and behavioral management strategies
Plans and supervises the Education Assistants assignments and activities in collaboration with teachers and school administration
Modify the curriculum and learning strategies appropriate with each student/promote differentiated instruction as needed
Support school parent/guardian and community engagement
In collaboration with the Jordans Principle navigator ensure all student needs are addressed accordingly
Other duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications & Skills:
Fluency in the Cree language would be an asset
Minimum of Bachelor of Education degree with specialization in Inclusive Education
Proven successful experience in Inclusive Education/Special Education
In possession of a valid Alberta Interim or Permanent Teaching Certificate
History of ongoing professional and personal development to support Inclusive Education
Submission of a current Intervention Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Is able to work collaboratively with other First Nation Inclusive Education Teachers/Coordinators in the region
Extensive knowledge of computer applications programs and technologies (Dossier)
Must be able to submit a Teacher Qualification Service statement
Demonstrate an understanding of the history of First Nation education trauma and trauma informed practices
Demonstrate a willingness to learn the tradition values and customs of the Whitefish Lake First Nation 128.
Working Conditions:
Opportunity to reside in teacherage if available
Occasional evening or weekend work for planning or supporting community events
Understanding of Indigenous cultures language traditions and sensitivity to the needs of the community (preferred).
