About the role

We regularly recruit law students in the later years theirstudies (year 3 or 4 of a double degree and penultimate year of asingle law degree) on a flexible casual basis working 25 dayseach week dependent on study commitments and the firmsrequirements.

Roles may include short of extended periods in one practicegroup to cover needs or as a Paralegal rotating through differentpractice areas as part of the Paralegal Program.

As a Paralegal you will be closely mentored by senior lawyers andhave a varied and interesting workload. Dependent on the role andthe practice group you will generally gain experience in thefollowing:
Legal research tasks
Preparing court documents for litigated matters
Discovery of documents
Drafting legal documents and correspondence
Attending client meetings and shadowing mediations andinformal settlements
Running small litigated matters from start to finish.

To fulfill the inherent requirements of this role successfulcandidates are required to work at least two full days a weekduring study semesters. These roles are casual positions thereforea degree of flexibility is offered. We appreciate that exams andthe leadup to the exam period is a stressful time therefore weencourage and expect law students to take time off during theseperiods. Whilst on semester break law students may be offeredadditional hours depending on their availability and the firmsrequirements. We also anticipate that the availability of lawstudents will change from semester to semester.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for students who are keento get their foot in the door of a legal firm or to students whowant to build on previously gained office or legal experience.

Paralegal positions are recruited throughout the year and isdependant on the specific needs of the firm. We will acknowledgeyour application upon receipt although we may not contact youuntil a need arises.

About you

You will be a law student about to commence year threeor above of a double degree 3/5 or year two or above of a singlelaw degree 2/3. You should also be available to work at least twofull days each week during your study semester.

This is an entry level position and whilst it would be desirableyou do not need to have any legal or office experience as on thejob training will be provided to you.

We are looking for law students who are driven and passionate abouta career in law. You will be motivated and eager to continuallylearn and develop.

Other sought after qualities include:
Selfconfidence initiative and good judgment
Excellent organisation skills
The ability to work well under pressure
Enthusiasm and willingness to work in a team and on yourown
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
A good eye for detail
Intermediate IT skills
Corporate presentation.
