RadioCanada Qubec is looking for a National Lineup Editor assigned to supervise prepare and present Le Tljournal Qubec weekend.
You will coordinate newsgathering personnel to cover stories. You will also oversee the work of journalists reporting from the field. You will prepare content for newscasts and present it on air ensuring that it adheres to Le Tljournal Qubecs mandate and CBC/RadioCanadas Journalistic Standards and Practices.
You will conduct interviews both on set and in the field. You may occasionally prepare your own stories for the Tljournal newscast radio and digital platforms. You will help promote regional content produced in your region.
For reference purposes this is a permanent fulltime position that will be assigned from Thursday to Sunday. However the schedule may be adjusted to accommodate workflows editorial requirements and operational needs.
You will report to the Regional Director RadioCanada Qubec and EstduQubec.
You will perform the following tasks:
Keep up with regional national and international news through various sources.
Research gather review vet and select news stories and items for newscasts. Identify sources and check facts.
Work with the radio/digital rundown producers to plan daily upcoming and specialevent coverage. Pitch story ideas and discuss story angles with your colleagues. Line up newscasts.
Cultivate a network of contacts.
Assign reporters and act as assignment editor to respond to requests from the network.
Select video clips. Adapt the content of these clips or reports for various newscast formats.
Monitor news developments with an eye on deadlines and change newscast content accordingly.
Copyedit reporters scripts before broadcast as needed. Vet stories that will be aired. Request changes if necessary.
Determine story angles. Write copy headlines and intros. Prepare live standups from reporters in the field.
After a broadcast provide feedback to reporters and management. Review the newscast if necessary.
When required help assess the work of reporters and critique newscasts or digital content.
Conduct interviews and produce stories that will run on the Tljournal newscast or on digital platforms.
Perform the duties of reporter as needed.
Perform all other related duties as needed.
Job requirements:
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or equivalent
Seven 7 years reporting experience
Skills:
Extensive general knowledge and superior analytical skills
Confident positive leadership
Superior communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work well under pressure
Indepth knowledge of regional national and international affairs
Solid command of French
Advanced oral proficiency intermediate writing proficiency and advanced reading proficiency in English is an asset
Inquisitive mind and ability to chase stories and interviews
At least three 3 years proven experience writing effectively for television
Thorough knowledge of newsroom logistics
Knowledge of production techniques
Knowledge of the multiplatform production environment (TV radio and digital)
An uptodate contact network
Thorough knowledge and understanding of CBC/RadioCanadas Journalistic Standards and Practices
