Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. The Scarborough Subway Extension program is seeking a dynamic Senior Advisor to join our Community Engagement team to provide guidance and support to colleagues management teams key community groups and stakeholders. This critical team member will lead projects and work with other staff to advise and recommend actions on a variety of topics related to policy programs and construction issues to help Metrolinx be a good neighbour in the communities where it builds. Proactive communications planning and managing special projects are essential parts of the role.
What will I be doing
- Works collaboratively with members of the community engagement team across various programs the senior management team and subject matter experts across the organization to develop policies lead projects and manage contentious or emerging issues; provides subject matter expertise and advice to assist with planning and implementation to ensure successful outcomes.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders/community groups by taking a holistic approach while interacting with them to address issues/concerns related to the project.
- Takes initiative to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities independently to support Scarborough Subway line construction and to reduce its impacts on communities; identifies emerging construction issues that impact communities and urgency of immediate demands; mediates and resolves conflicts associated with construction issues ongoing work and between competing projects.
- Designs and implements stakeholder engagement strategies and seeks advice from the public about reaching shared goals of building the new subway while minimizing the impacts of construction on neighbourhoods across the city.
- Assesses and analyzes business operations to effectively evaluate options and manage programs and special projects using project management tools to ensure established timelines and resources are maintained.
- Initiates and supports development of reports presentations engagement and communication strategies and plans in collaboration with business units across the Communications and Community Engagement teams. This includes developing reviewing and analyzing reports presentations and communication documents prior to dissemination to ensure consistency quality and good flow of information.
- Develops data in dashboards and synthesizes meaningful information for reporting analysis and presentation purposes for use by senior management internal business units and stakeholders.
- Leads and/or works with cross functional teams to coordinate information requests develop progress updates manage distribution of information while utilizing influencing skills to achieve desired outcomes.
- Manages the development and flow of useful timely and accurate information between the business unit and a broad range of external stakeholders (e.g. community organizations city staff business partners).
- Supports the coordination and development of presentations to support internal and external conversations/connections.
- Responds to enquiries provides advice and makes decisions in accordance with established legislation policies and procedures.
- Develops and maintains a strong network with internal and external partners to coordinate projects set priorities and deadlines and share best practices.
- Leads continuous improvement projects using LEAN methodology and best practices to create operational efficiencies in the Communications division.
What skills & qualifications do I need
- Completion of a degree in public administration communications public relations urban planning or related field or a combination of education training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Extensive experience ideally in the public sector developing outreach and communications materials; managing special projects complex and sensitive issues/tasks and timely flow of information along with stakeholder interaction.
- Demonstrated project management experience to plan organize and coordinate internal and external resources engaged in communications project activities to meet timelines budget limitations and adhere to quality control standards and best practices.
- Strong influencing/negotiating as well as political acumen capabilities to deal with a variety of stakeholders agencies and staff to ensure successful outcomes and achieve goals.
- Analytical skills to analyze business needs and identify and assess communications risks and impacts on company reputation and develop recommendations for corrective action.
- Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to facilitate public meetings present at public events and write a variety of communications products presentations and reports
- Knowledge of the theory principles and practices of stakeholder management public relations and communications.
- Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office (e.g. Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint).
