PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: The purpose of theSpecial Education Associate position is to provideoneonone or small group assistance to students with special needs allowing them to attend a regular classroom setting on a regular basis.
LOCATION:The location for this specific position will be determined by the Director of Special Education based on student needs and will be communicated to applicants at the time of will have the option to indicate location of preference during the application process.
Beginning Hourly Rate: $17.28/hr
This position is parttime and is not eligible for health insurance benefits.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:
1.Ability to work with physically impaired and special needsstudents on a daily basis.
to react quickly and calmly when an emergency arises.
of IEP procedures physical therapy and occupational therapy programs.

to communicate with extreme patience to students with special needs or behavioral problems.

Education:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
experience with children with special needs preferred.
Equipment:
equipments such as cell phone multiline phone system fax machines copiers and computers.
2. Assistive devices such as wheelchairs and walkers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
special needs students to classes lunch and on extensive communitybased outside trips to work on daily living career and leisure skills.
insturctional assistance to students in subjects when needed.
assistance in classes such as PE Home Arts Computers.
physical and/or occupational therapy programs where appropriate when trained by classroom and/or education agency therapists.
5. Assist with mobility needs such as repositioning loading and unloading onto the bus as well as transporting students around the school.
6. Assist students with selfcare needs when appropriate.
7. Attend district seminars and classes as well as professional training.
8. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
9. Maintain confidentiality.
10. Assist with programs the teacher has created for educational purposes.
11. Report incidents of anunusual nature to teacher and principal.
12. Perform clerical tasks such as making phone calls filing and maintaining student records.
13. Maintain student work areas in a neat and orderly manner.
14. Knowledge of emergency procedures for building and classroom.
15. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
16. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
None
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Satisfactory health as certified by a competent medical authority upon hire.
Repetitious bending lifting and hand movement.
Ability to work while standing moving and/or walking.
Drug tobacco and alcoholfree while working.
Must be able to see and hear within normal limits with or without corrective lenses or hearing aids.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle used to travel between sites.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Majority of work isperformed in an office or school setting.
Occasional meetings outside the school day.
Occasional exposure to body fluids fumes noise and hazardous materials and emergency situations.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Performance evaluated annually.
