About the Role:
As a member of the product design team the Embedded Electronics Engineer will be instrumental in designing and developing innovative solutions for Draganflys nextgeneration products. From concept through production handson involvement in prototype development and fabrication will be key. This role encompasses electronics hardware design firmware development mechanical design design verification testing and project management. The engineer will be responsible for creating product specifications managing timelines and ensuring products are developed on schedule and within budget while meeting all specifications. The position will involve a balance of office and labbased work.
This role offers the potential for hybrid work depending on the daily tasks and requirements.
Salary Range $78000 $83000
Specific Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop detailed product specifications and designs based on customer/internal requirements and market direction.
Conduct feasibility studies design reviews and risk assessments to ensure that the products meet quality and performance standards.
Electronics Circuit Design
- Development of analog and digital electronics for the control of new and existing products
- Part sourcing and selection
- Selection of Microcontrollers/FPGAs/DSPs suitable for new product designs
- Creation of technical documentation including schematics and circuit block diagrams.
- Development and layout of PCBs.
- Development and of test plans and design verification testing
- Creation of jigs for circuit verification
- Development of BOMs and board assembly information.
- Fabrication of prototypes
Firmware Development
- Developing and writing code for embedded devices using programming languages such as C and C
- Development of code for embedded Linux or RTOS
- Designing and implementing FPGA circuits using HDLs such as Verilog
- Ensuring that the software and hardware are wellintegrated the device functions as expected and is thoroughly tested
- Documentation and severity classification of bugs
- Diagnosing and fixing any bugs that arise
- Development and implementation of regression test plans
- Maintaining firmware revision control
- Ensuring firmware security through implementation of techniques such as secure boot code obfuscation encryption secure coding practices and security testing
Mechanical Design
- Conceptualizing and designing the overall product from initial product design to final production including functionality size shape materials and manufacturing processes
- Creating 3D models and drawings
- Selecting and testing materials
- Fabrication of prototypes to test functionality durability and other aspects of the design
Assist manufacturing and customer support with troubleshooting any product issues
Work with sales and business development teams to create new product concepts and features
Work with production engineering to transition newly released products to manufacturing.
Work with production engineering to initiate and approve engineering change orders
Qualifications
- The successful candidate shall have a bachelors degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5 years electronic design experience is required.
- A strong knowledge of circuit design PCB layout and testing methodologies.
- Proficiency in Electronic CAD software such as Eagle.
- Proficiency in Mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks.
- Experience with embedded systems and microcontroller programming.
- Excellent problemsolving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel for occasional tradeshows demonstrations or site visits.
