Job Description

Reports to: Building Principal

Buildings: Edgewood and Joy Elementary Schools

General Purpose

The Student Success Coach addresses the unique needs of students and provides supplemental support for academic success. The goal of the Success Coach is to engage and support identified students as atrisk students in reaching academic and school success. Working within a tiered system of intervention strategies activities and support may include graduation assistance activities working with students in reaching academic goals working with school faculty and staff and working with parents/guardians and guardians in order to assist students in reaching an ultimate goal of school success. Within a tiered system of support the Success Coach will provide assistance to identified students individually and/or in groups regarding courses school work graduation school completion behaviors attendance and other academic/social/emotional barriers that may interfere with school success. This position collaborates and builds relationships with school staff and enhances family engagement to improve attendance ontrack and graduation rates.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Implement individual intervention strategies within a tiered system to increase the likelihood that identified students will succeed and stay in school and/or complete graduation requirements or other completion requirements. Success strategies may be multifaceted and can include academic behavioral attendance emotional etc. type interventions and strategies. Identified students intervention strategies and student progress is to be monitored and tracked utilizing a district/school adopted method/tool (E.g. Early Warning Sign Tool).2.
  • Work with identified students to implement a success and/or achievement plan to reach individual goals.
  • Connect identified students and their parents/guardians with outside programs social agencies business partners mentor programs as appropriate and as established in the intervention plan; and monitor the effectiveness of such programs/services.
  • Provide training/support/information to identified students and their parents/guardians regarding the implementation of the intervention plan.
  • Within the framework of the intervention plan for identified students collaborate with faculty staff and administrators in order to meet the parameters of the plan and provide successful intervention strategies for school success.
  • Provide and/or submit reports to school administrators as scheduled and requested.
  • Provides direct tutoring and other support to students as needed.
  • Effectively networks and strategizes with district school and community partners.
  • Collaborates with students parents and school teams to improve attendance grades test scores behavior and graduation readiness.
  • Responds to parent student teacher and staff requests for assistance with needs and services.
  • Maintains positive communication with parents the district office school counselors nurses community school federal programs and other personnel to address the needs of individual students to improve services and outcomes.
  • Offers educational opportunities on an individual small group or large group basis according to needs and academic achievement of students including planning and implementation of one or more regular schoolbased group(s).
  • Provides social service referrals for students and families to community agencies when appropriate.
  • Attends assigned training and professional development as determined.

Education and Experience

  • A degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Completion of the MCAS Online Application
