Job Description

Yearly $5000 Stipend included

TITLE: SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST

QUALIFICATIONS:Valid Kentucky Certification for School Psychologist

REPORT TO/EVALUATED BY:Director of Special Education

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days 15 extended days

BASIC FUNCTION:To provide organized quality school psychological services which are comprehensive in nature to facilitate the education of students in both the special education and regular education programs.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  1. Seek to prevent educational and behavioral problems through early identification and schoolbased consultation.
  1. Identify special needs of children through consultation observation and other psychological and educational assessments.
  1. Analyze integrate and report psychological and educational information about child behavior and conditions related to learning.
  1. Consult with teachers and other staff members in planning implementing evaluating school programs and interventions to meet the identified needs of individuals and groups of children.
  1. Plan and manage a program of psychological services including:
    a. Prereferral referral and assessment services
    b. Early identification services
    c. Provide assistance for staff in the design and implementation of appropriate interventions and accommodations for students.
    d. Coordinate and/or collaborate with a range of individuals/agencies to promote and provide comprehensive services to students and families.
    e. Program evaluation and applied research
    f. Staff development and inservice
  1. Provide a psychological evaluation on each pupil assigned which includes a written report based on observations of the pupil and an assessment of the pupils abilities achievement and educational development.
  1. Serve as a member of ARC committees when appropriate.
  1. Consult with supervisors and principals and assist with screening for preschool and/or gifted/talented programs.
  1. Keep inventory of all testing materials and order new materials for testing administration.
  1. Proficiently use technology to communicate compile reports and collect data.
  1. Assist with crisis intervention efforts and provide insight into the development of functional assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  1. Participate in building or program activities and meetings as appropriate.
  1. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or the Superintendent.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds. The employee is directly responsible for safety wellbeing or work output of other people.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
