Job Description

Department: HS Fine & Performing Arts

Job Title:Music TeacherChoral & Orchestra

Reports to:School Principal/Department Head

FLSA Status: Exempt (Unit A)

Summary:The high school Choral & Orchestra Teacher willlead our Orchestra direct Chorus(s) and teach the Music Theory classes including Advanced Placement Music Theory. The music department consists of 2 fulltime and 2 parttime staff.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Appropriate DESE teaching license including SEI endorsement
  • Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use technology effectively
  • Experience directing string ensembles / orchestras
  • Experience directing choral ensembles
  • Ability to present evening concerts and support students auditioning / participating at regional festivals
  • Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with numerous building stakeholders

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities (Not Limited To):

  • Teach Orchestra Choral Ensembles Music Theory Classes
  • Depending on enrollment teach other classes within music (not listed above)
  • Work closely with the Music Team and the greater Fine Performing Arts Department
  • Perform evening concerts (typically 46 per year)
  • Be present for evening events Back to School Night 8th Grade Open House Parent Conferences
  • Partner with counselors department head and deans to support struggling students
  • Participate at weekly department faculty or schoolwide meetings
  • Partner with the K12 Music Department as needed
  • Establish and maintain home/school connections for students and work with families concerning home situations
  • that relate to school performance
  • Consistent reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students
  • Responsible for implementing other jobrelated duties as needed
  • Design and implement curriculum and instruction that supports the school and districtwide goals of culturally
  • responsive instruction and universally designed learning.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum lesson and assessment design.
  • Participate actively in faculty department and team meetings.
  • Set professional development goals develop professional development plans and participate in professional development activities that improve teaching practice.
  • Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions to communicate effectively with students colleagues
  • parents and the community.
  • Consistent reliable and punctual attendance is essential for supervision and instruction of the students.
  • Use an online learning management system to post important materials/information about courses.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Majority of work is performed in a school / classroom / performance hall environment.
  • While performing the duties of this job the teacher is frequently required to walk stand sit talk and hear. The teacher is regularly required to bend stoop crouch and/or kneel. The teacher is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
