Job Description

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Vice President for Development & Alumni Engagement.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assistant Director of Grants & Foundation Relations

POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Foundation & Government Relations has a pivotal role in planning and implementing strategies to secure funding from private and community foundations as well as independent state and federal funding agencies. This role is integral to advancing Moravian Universitys mission by securing essential funding and fostering relationships with key stakeholders in the foundation and government sectors to support the universitys goals and priorities across graduate undergraduate and seminary programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Proposal Development and Submission

  • Streamline Proposal Processes: Establish repositories and procedures for proposal development and tracking including standard templates and checklists to meet agency requirements.
  • Collaborate with Consultants: Work directly with vendors and consultants to enhance funding strategies and leverage their expertise in securing grants and building relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Manage Grant Submissions: Curate funding opportunities aligned with faculty interests and coordinate with faculty and the Office of Sponsored Programs for efficient submissions.
  • Ensure Compliance: Support proofreading and formatting of proposals to meet sponsor requirements especially for large or centerlevel projects.
  • Research and Data Compilation: Conduct needs assessments and compile institutional data for proposal development drafting nontechnical sections as required.
  • Maintain Award Reports: Develop and maintain sponsored award activity reports and assist in preparing a university grants portfolio for external partners.
  • Support Compliance: Collaborate on documentation for conflict of interest export control and other compliance areas.

Event and Training Support

  • Facilitate Grant Events: Provide logistical support for major grantrelated events and site visits.
  • Conduct Training: Develop and facilitate workshops and support for faculty and staff on the grant process.

Fundraising and Relationship Building

  • Lead Fundraising Initiatives: Direct fundraising programs targeting public private and community grantmakers focusing on university priorities.
  • Cultivate Funder Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with current and prospective funders leveraging external expertise as needed.
  • Identify New Prospects: Research and identify new foundation prospects utilizing journals and databases for information.

Communication and Stewardship

  • Develop Communication Strategies: Establish channels and strategies with government officials to promote university initiatives.
  • Oversee Stewardship Programs: Design programs to acknowledge grants and gifts including strategic events and required reporting. Ensure scholarship stewardship including student profiles and letters is accurate and distributed.
  • Coordinate Communications: Develop policies for internal and external communications regarding grants coordinating with media and public relations.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve as a partner and leader across the Development & Alumni Engagement team to encourage and cultivate an environment of collegiality and cooperation. Actively engage in universitybased initiatives programs and celebrations as a department representative and member of the Moravian community.
  • Perform other jobrelated duties as may be assigned by the Vice President for Development & Alumni Engagement.

QUALIFICATIONS: A baccalaureate degree in a related field and three to five years of experience in foundation relations especially proposal writing. Demonstrated experience in building effective relationships with foundations and government entities is necessary. Persuasive oral and written communication skills. Effective organizational leadership and time management skills. Proficiency in computer applications related to proposal development and submission is required. Ability to work in a selfdirected fashion and be a collaborative development team member. Strong organizational and managerial skills and demonstrated experience in dealing with a broad spectrum of constituencies are all necessary. Ability to communicate the mission and objectives of private higher education particularly churchrelated higher education. Must have the ability to work outside the traditional workday.
