About the Position

WHO WE ARE

Montgomery County Department of Recreation is a nationally recognized and awardwinning agency with a mission to provide highquality diverse and accessible communitybased programs activities and services that serve the recreation and leisure needs of the Montgomery County community. The department manages 39 facilities including recreation centers senior centers and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as outofschool activities aquatics classes youth and adult sports programs and leagues senior programs and therapeutic recreation.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are seeking eager apprentices and interns interested in a dynamic career in Aquatics and Recreation. This exciting path offers opportunities for personal growth and community engagement. Candidates will be trainedand certified in American Red Cross Lifeguardingandalsohave the chance to become swim instructors. Ideal candidates shouldpossessstrong service orientation active listening speaking and teaching skills and feel comfortable in an aquatic environment. With flexible hours and several locations to choose from this isa great opportunityfor those looking to make an impact. All candidates must be approved through the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Program.

What Youll Be Doing

Duties will include:

  • Customer Service

  • Enforcing safety rules

  • Performing routine cleaning

  • Perform life saving skills when necessary

Successful candidates shouldpossessthe following knowledgeskillsand abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply fundamentals of business English spelling grammar punctuation arithmetic and standard office practices and procedures.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to exercise good judgement courtesy and tact in dealing with the public.

  • Work evenings weekends andholidays

The hourly rate for this seasonal position is $17.15 an hour.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience:Some work experience as a participant or instructor in one or more recreation activities is preferred

  • Education:Ability to read and write in English.

  • Equivalency:None

  • *Please note this position requires preapproval from MCPSapprenticeship team in partnership with Maryland State Department of Labor*

  • Aquatics positions require the Medical History Review with a Drug/Alcohol screen.
