Job Description
Maryville Academy is excited to be a part of opening a new program in Chicago! St. Catherine of Sienna is going to be providing care and support to medically fragile youth. About the St. Catherine of Siena Healthcare Center
St. Catherine of Siena. St. Catherine of Siena is a DCFS 10bed coed Shelter for medically fragile children (not ventilator dependent) aged birth to age 21.
About the Cook Position: At Maryville the Cook is responsible for the preparation for all food items required for our clients staff and visitors and to do so in accordance with governmental guidelines.
- Must be over the age of 21
- Must have a valid Illinois Drivers License

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Follows all Maryvilles policies and procedures as well as all standard operating procedures for designated work sites/programs;
- Responsible for the preparation and serving of all food on schedule according to the menu;
- Utilizes standardized recipes portion control and ingredient controls;
- Maintains food costs through the use of FIFO food rotation safe food handling recording of food production amounts and utilizing carryovers;
- Assists in planning nutritious balanced and appetizing meals in accordance with governmental guidelines;
- Assists with food ordering and inventory;
- Maintain sanitation health and safety standards in work areas;
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Experience:
- Culinary degree or related discipline preferred but relevant experience and technical abilities may be substituted;
- Must possess Food Protection Manager Certificate.
Skills /Knowledge:
- Ability to provide food service and work under pressure during busy production periods;
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Physical Demands:
- Required to frequently sit stand bend stoop and walk sometimes for extended periods;
- Required to lift/ move objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds;
- Must have visual hearing and learning capabilities sufficient to perform the essential functions defined above.
Environment and Scheduling:
- Work is performed in the designated kitchen area;
- Duties may involve contact with youth or adults who may be threatening aggressive and/or under the influence of or alcohol;
- Must be flexible and available to work additional hours when necessary.
