Performs quality assurance quality control acceptance and commissioning with proper documentation for Radiation Oncology equipment including hardware and software. Supports and performs routine and special procedures such as Brachytherapy GammaKnife and IORT. Trains and educates Radiation Oncology staff regarding dosimetry physics and technical topics. Verifies and documents database for all sources of radiation upon which all accurate patient dose calculation and delivery is based. Analyzes and evaluates equipment performance in the accurate measurement of specification and safe delivery of high levels of radiation doses to cancer patients. Monitors calibrated radiation output and mechanical integrity of radiotherapy treatment machines for ensuring consistent accurate and safe delivery of high levels of radiation doses to cancer patients. Provides technical assistance to consulting staff regarding patient care as requested. Investigates questions relating to improved patient care implements changes when necessary documents results of investigations and changes at that time. Provides instruction to residents fellows Dosimetrists therapist nurses and consultants as needed. Participates in Radiation Oncology related research projects as needed.
Board certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiologic Physics required as well as a Masters or Doctorate Degree in Medical Physics Physics or related field from an accredited college or university. Prefer a minimum of two years of experience post receipt of Board Certification. Knowledge of Radiation Oncology treatment planning Dosimetry Radiation Physics radiation safety techniques for handling radioactive sources. Must have a thorough understanding of theory of detection and measurement of ionizing radiation radiation biology radiation protection health physics clinical radiation dosimetry and Federal and state guidelines pertaining to the medical use of radiation. Must have ability to use current software applications. Exposure to ionizing radiation. Must be able to communicate and work effectively with all personnel both within and outside the institution. Must be able to tolerate occasional stooping pushing and lifting as required. Ability to adjust hours to responsibilities is required.
