Instructional Student Assistant for the Learning Center

The Learning Centeris seeking applicants to fill Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader positions.

Position Overview:

Fresno States Learning Center is a space that encourages students to grow intellectually as critical thinkers. We advance student success by actively using effective learning strategies to improve content understanding and course grades. SI Leaders do not teach but instead facilitate students learning of difficult topics within historically challenging courses or subjects. The Learning Center aims to boldly integrate the culture and values of each student to inspire a community of lifelong learners.

Please see below for key characteristics associated with the position of a Learning Center SI Leader:

• Supports students and professors in a specific course or section (example: CHEM 1A with Professor Gray)

• Must work 1315 hours a week divided into 30minute to 3 hour tasks 35 days a week

• Drives the agenda of 90minute study sessions

• Works most hours in a classroom with office hours in the Learning Center

• Must be able to attend class lectures (inperson and/or virtual) for the supporting course

Anticipated Appointment Dates:This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available you will be notified.

Fall 2025: August 18 2025 December 22 2025; anticipated start date August 11 2025

Spring 2026: January 15 2026 May 22 2026; anticipated start date January 8 2026

Hours: 020 hours per week.

Job Duties:May include the following but will be dependent upon the specific course to which the SI Leader will be assigned as well as upon the specific needs of the course faculty member(s) and Learning Center staff:

• Prepare events material and references for students

• Perform individual and/or group academic support

• Plan and facilitate outreach and marketing efforts to recruit students

• Attend all scheduled training meeting dates and class lectures

Qualifications:

• Must be enrolled in 6 units at Fresno State

• Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0

• Must have passed specific course(s) you are applying for with a grade B or better.

• Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty staff and students from diverse ethnic cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

2. Current unofficial transcripts from your undergraduate and graduate education. If you have attended more than one institution please copy and combine these transcripts into one document. How to submit your unofficial transcripts:

   1. If you are a Fresno State student: Sign into . Access your Unofficial Transcript. Highlight all text throughout the document copy it and paste it into a word processor document and save the document with your name somewhere in the file name.

   2. If you are not yet a Fresno State student: Most U.S. universities allow students to access their academic records online in a way similar to the way described above for Fresno State students. Contact your institutions registrar to find out how to access your unofficial transcript and follow the process described above. The California State University Instructional Student Assistant Classification and Qualification Standards

• Evaluations: ISAs may be evaluated per CBA Unit 11 Article 8

• Salary: Each department has different salary scales. Please check with your department for your Base Salary. The Salary range for Instructional Student Assistants starts at $17.86 per an hour.

• Assignments: Assignments are made by Department Chair or Program Coordinator after consultation with the candidate.

• Duties Form: Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement for Unit 11 a Duties Form (see Appendix E of the CBA) will be completed between the Department and Academic Student Employee. This form substantiates the jobs included for the department Instructional Student Assistant position.

• Instructional Student Assistant positions are for matriculated students at Fresno State.

• Students are limited to 20hours of parttime work on campus.
