Position: Director of Finance

Reports to: CEO

Location: Denver hybrid (combination of inoffice and work from home)

Type: Fulltime exempt

Pay: $85000 to $110000 annually generous benefits including 401k matching 100 employerpaid premiums for health dental vision paid vacation holiday pay and two months paid parental leave

Colorado Village Collaborative exists to bridge the gap between the streets and stable housing. We create operate and advocate for transformational housing communities in partnership with people experiencing homelessness. We currentlymanage three MicroCommunities and Safe Outdoor Spaces.


Colorado Village Collaborative is hiring a Controller to advance our mission vision and strategic priorities. The Controller is responsible for developing and leading all accounting operational functions managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements and assessing accounting and internal control systems. The Controller will work closely with the CEO and will lead the finance team in advancing the organizations near and longterm goals. Primary roles and responsibilities for this position are outlined below. This position supervises one direct report (subject to change based on organizational growth).


Priority Work Experience Requirement:

  • Work history with Federal State and/or City contracting and invoicing
  • Experience working with and managing Bill platform
  • Five plus years with Quick Books Online
  • Experience reporting and tracking government contracts and large grants

Reporting and Accounting

  • Produce monthly financial reports to the finance committee and leadership team
  • Responsible for monthend and yearend close of income statement and balance sheet account reconciliations & G/L analysis
  • Prepare cashflow reports projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals
  • Support production of annual report
  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company
  • Manage the production of monthly monitoring of annual budget calculate variances and report significant changes to the CEO
  • Analysis and management of organizational costs
  • Provide financial analyses as needed in particular for capital investments pricing and salary decisions and contract negotiations

Compliance

  • Coordinate with an external auditor to achieve compliance and creation of 990s
  • Manage our annual audit and support our auditor to complete the audit in a timely fashion.
  • Comply with mandated reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Support HR compliance with benefits retirement payroll and other HR financial needs

Management

  • Evaluate implement and streamline policies procedures controls and most methodologies
  • Manage outsourced accounting functions or bookkeeping staff
  • Research plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firmwide improvements as needed
  • Oversee the activities of the finance department such as accounts payable billings & collections and payroll
  • Participate in at the leadership team level for supporting organizational operation

Transactions

  • Foundational Grant management in partnership with Development Director
  • Ensure accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
  • Maintain system of controls over accounting transactions
  • Oversee production of government invoicing
  • Maintain asset registers
  • Conduct banking transactions such as check deposits cashier check requests etc.

Other Responsibilities

  • Secretary of State filings both corporate and nonprofit
  • Works directly with Development Director for grantrelated reporting requirements
  • Procure W9s and process 1099 reporting
  • Ensure Tax Exempt Status with vendors
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications and Skills Needed:

  • BA/BS in Accounting Finance Economics or other businessrelated field
  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience including as a Controller preferred
  • Nonprofit Experience preferred
  • Deep understanding of Accounts Payable (AP)/Accounts Receivable (AR)
  • GAAP Accounting experience with accrual methods
  • Proven knowledge of QuickBooks
  • Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred
  • Ability to work professionally and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and skills in a team environment
  • A willingness to engage in continuous learning about antioppression and social justice issues
  • Passion for advancing solutions to homelessness
