Job Description

This position is assigned to the school based team to provide support for students. Working under the supervision of the Principal/Vice Principal and under the general direction of a teacher the Education Assistant will work directly with students to assist with social emotional behavioural physical and academic needs. This is position includes supervision of students in nonclassroom times such as before school recess lunch period and/or after school. Food safe course completion would be an asset.

This is a Roving EA position with the primary location being Salmo Secondary and secondary location being Salmo Elementary.

This position is due to a leave.

All awarded applicants will be required to join the CUPE Local 748 Union.
Note: A Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check will be required from successful applicants with a review every five 5 years.

LIF to be added to hours for the year.
Responsibilities will vary and may include the following:

facilitating student learning individually or in small groups
documenting daily progress and assisting in the collection of data for the purpose of evaluating student progress
supporting students in learning social behaviour or life skills
supporting students who have intense aggressive/noncompliant behaviour through the guiding principles of positive behaviour support
carrying out personal and health care routines i.e. assisting in the students personal care such as feeding dressing toiletting physical support and lifting
supporting learning and skill development activities in worksite and community based settings
providing information to teachers for home/school formal/informal communications while maintaining confidentiality
monitoring and assisting students during unstructured time such as recess lunch hour before and after school periods and between classes
attending meetings as part of the school based team
using a wide range of equipment including adaptive technology augmentative communication devices and computer software
demonstrating a positive and respectful working relationship as part of a collaborative team

Required Qualifications:
College of the Rockies SPEDA Course; Selkirk College Classroom and Community Support Worker (CCSW) Program and/or equivalent college program or minimum of one 1 year college level training in the Human Services field with a focus on training in behaviour management and students with special needs. Demonstrated evidence of a successful practicum completion is required.

Preferred Qualifications (training will be provided as required):
current autism training (e.g. POPARD Level 1 or equivalent) **
nonviolent crisis intervention training(e.g. MANDT)

**If you are currently employed as an Education Assistant in School District #8 opportunities to access autism training will be provided during noninstructional time.

SD8 EDUCATION ASSISTANT JOB DESCRIPTION:


Job Summary:
The incumbent is assigned to the school based team to provide specialized support for students with identified special needs as directed by the Principal. Must be flexible in assignments. It is expected that all employees will follow district communication protocols and maintain confidentiality. The ability to communicate and work as a team player is essential.

Job Requirements:
1. College of the Rockies SPEDA course; Selkirk College Classroom and Community Support Worker Program and/or equivalent College Program recognized by other School Districts in the Province or a minimum of one 1 year college level training in the Human Services field with a focus on training in behaviour management students with special needs.
2. Ability to work effectively with students and adults.
3. Ability to communicate appropriately with other staff members students and parents as directed.
4. Ability to be part of a collaborative team maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality in working relationships with all school personnel students parents and the public.
5. Ability to work as part of school based planning team as required see Special Services District Handbook page 7 and Collective Agreement page 101.
6. Ability to be flexible and work with minimal supervision.
7. May be required to dispense approved medications as prescribed by the students doctor in accordance with Board Policy No. 310 (September 22 1998 and be required to sign Request for Medication Form attached thereto. Training will be provided.
8. Ability to work with noncompliant students in a nonconfrontational manner.
9. Training in nonviolent crisis intervention will be provided.
10. Childrelated team requirements and special skills needed will be identified for special assignments. Any special skills required will be outlined on the specific Job Duties portion of the Job Description.
11. May be required to have a valid B.C. (Class 5 Drivers License.
12. Must have understanding and knowledge of safe work practices.
13. Perform other job related duties as may be assigned.

Noon Hour Supervisor

Job Summary:
An employee who under direction of the Principal or designate supervises students in indoor and outdoor settings.

Job Requirements:
1. Communicates effectively with excellent interpersonal skills.
2. Acts with authority tact and diplomacy.
3. Works with noncompliant students in a nonconfrontational manner. Training in nonviolent crisis intervention will be provided.
4. Part of a collaborative team maintaining a professional attitude and confidentiality in working relationships with all school personnel and students.
5. Provides care to designated students medical needs as directed by a health professional where the consequences for error are not life threatening in accordance with Board Policy No. 310 and be required to sign Request for Medication Form attached thereto. Training will be provided.
6. Must have understanding and knowledge of safe work practices and follows the Independent Learning Services Education Assistant Handbook and student safety plan.
7. Renders emergency assistance and/or follows emergency protocols.
8. Reports site safe concerns.
9. Performs other job related duties as may be assigned.
