The Public Service Safety Area is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their team!

About the position
Job Appointment:Full time Regular
Work Schedule:Monday Friday8 hours per day with potential to work an alternative schedule.
Work Location:Primarilyremote with onsite work as neededlocation TBD.

Position Summary
This position is responsible for performing a variety of time and payroll functions forthePublic Safety bureaus.This position will primarily support the PortlandPoliceBureau (PPB.Theotherinternal customersforPublic Safetyinclude the Portland Bureau ofEmergency Management(PBEM)PortlandFire & Rescue(PF&R) andthe Bureau of Emergency Communications (BOEC).

As a Payroll Specialistyou will:
  • Maintain pay and human resources records including entering data into payroll timekeepingand/or human resources systems.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant labor contracts provisions (with support and training).

  • Audittimesheets for accuracy according to City of Portlandrulesand FLSA policies.

  • Respond to questions or issues brought forward byemployees.

  • Research and resolve payroll errors.

  • Communicate with staff to resolve any discrepancies.

  • Maintain the FMLA spreadsheet process timesheets as per designation notice parameters and track claim expirations.

  • Run and review payroll retro reports to verify retro payments and overpayments.

  • Address any issues and complete overpayment forms for employees.

  • Provide strong attention to detail & manage a dynamic workload in afastpacedenvironment.

  • Work independently with limited assistance and supervision.

  • Manage workflow to meet strict payroll deadlines.

  • Assist with ad hoc requests and miscellaneous inquiries.

About the Public Safety Service Area:
The Public Service Safety Area (PSSA) aligns public safety resources and systems to improve services to and outcomes for the community. This team is responsible for ensuring that the public safety bureaus and commissionersincharge lead and maintain a coordinated and strategic effort to plan and implement community driven policy reforms across the public safety system.

The following minimum qualifications are requiredfor this position:
