Other Conditions: We are filling two fulltime temporary positions at the Band B level. These positions are subject to availability of 100 Federal Funding and is annually renewable every July 1 contingent on performance and/or availability of funds.


Duties and Responsibilities

(NOTE: ** denotes Essential Functions)


  • **Serves as the Community Infrastructure Specialist for the UH Center for Indigenous Innovation and Health Excellence (CIIHE) to lead capacitybuilding efforts for community research and program initiatives in partnership with CIIHEs network of partners
  • **Identifies and develops innovative approaches to evaluation program implementation and curriculum development that incorporate aspects of ecological and community health from an Indigenous worldview in a specific geographic region
  • **Strengthens community networks by identifying collective gaps and needs facilitating information exchange and fostering critical relationships between communities and systems across the state of Hawaii
  • **Develops initiatives that support infrastructure for longterm sustainability of Indigenous practices and knowledge systems
  • **Works alongside researchers academic professionals and cultural professionals to ensure cultural accuracy and respect
  • **Works closely with Principal Investigators and Director to identify opportunities to apply research findings to strengthen existing policies and expand current policy and/or systems change initiatives
  • Performs other related project administration duties as required


Minimum Qualifications

Education and Professional Work Experience

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Hawaiian/Pacific Islander Studies Natural Resource Management Communications or a related field and 3 years of progressively responsible relevant experience or equivalent education/training or experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community networks culture history and practices as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community networks culture history and practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  • If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.


Supplemental Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading and implementing programming for communitybased initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders from various sectors and engaging multigenerational communities.
  • Considerable knowledge of public health and/or Indigenous evaluation concepts.
  • Excellent organization writing presentation and communication skills. Strong multitasking ability and capacity to keep up with a fastpaced and often relationshipdriven work environment.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license which is required for travel.


Desired Qualifications

  • Skilled communicator including with Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander community practitioners government agencies academic professionals and executivelevel leaders.
  • Proficiency in Hawaiian language or language of a Pacific Island region.
  • Knowledge of Native Hawaiian and/or Pacific Islander cultural practices.
