This position is open to Alaskan Residents only.
As Office Assistant 2 (OA 2 for the Recruitment Unit you will be responsible for answering phones responding to email messages and handling correspondence from potential Trooper Deputy Fire Marshall and Court Services Officer applicants. The OA 2 will need to learn about the Department of Public Safety (DPS) hiring process and be familiar with common questions received by applicants who are seeking more information about how to apply and navigate the hiring process. Additionally as the OA 2 you will learn to build complex digital packets that contain the applicants personal information search databases contact military organizations and assist in setting up a file to be used by a background investigator to conduct a thorough background investigation

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience 3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
High school diploma equivalent means one of the following: 1 a G.E.D.; 2 completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours 16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3 acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4 highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients answering phones typing filing sorting mail entering data receiving payments making change or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular drivers license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

AT TIME OF INTERVIEW
At time of interview applicant must provide:
APSIN
This position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally a security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application or security clearance.
BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position and required access to APSIN an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.

CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT
The successful candidate will be required to read understand and agree to via signature an agreement of confidentiality concerning the work commonly encountered within the Department of Public Safety to qualify for this position.
