What is our Mission
The mission of the Canada and Emerging Markets team is to improve our product to be the best in Canada and across markets in the US where operators staff or guests are more familiar with other hospitality cultures (think Tapas Dim Sum etc). As Engineering Manager you will focus on collaborating with your Product Manager and multiple customers across the country. These customers include small and huge restaurants with a single owner or various locations.
Youll get to talk directly to customers hear about their problems and share your own ideas on how to make things better for them. This might mean traveling to different spots to see how they work firsthand. Youll also turn customer feedback into actual product improvements working with your engineering team to build and deliver solutions that fit the specific needs of the Canadian and emerging US markets.
About this roll*: (Responsibilities)
As Engineering Manager you will lead a team (or teams) to deliver work that impacts Toasts success and you will grow the capabilities of your teams engineers over time. You love finding ways to make your teams more efficient. You help connect their work to Toasts broader mission. You care deeply about helping the people whom you manage grow into excellent engineers and great teammates. You are interested in technical work with enough experience to make sure that engineers are moving in the right direction. On a given day you might be reviewing design documents and PRs coordinating discussions between teams collaborating on roadmaps with architectural and product stakeholders and conducting 1:1s with team members.
- Collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation to make our international ambitions a reality
- Closely working with Product Managers to define and refine roadmap identify product gaps navigate dependencies
- Triaging and managing customer issues sometimes in person in the restaurant!
- Mentor both new and experienced engineers in both technology and leadership
- Engage the team to be a problem solver for our customers
- Track and ensure teams are delivering impact and outcomes in their work
- Monitor the quality of our solution experience and constantly improve it
- Hire and develop new team members
Do you have the right ingredients (Qualities & Essential Skills)
- Experience writing delivering and operating software in a SaaS environment
- 5 years mentoring and developing successful teams
- A strong sense of empathy for customers and teammates
- A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritises customer success
