Required Education and/or Experience
Formal education is equivalent to a high school degree including additional vocational locksmith training;
Considerable experience with the repair and maintenance of locking devices; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required skills knowledge and abilities;
Valid drivers license.
Other jobrelated education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements except for certification or licensure requirements.

Oversees the master keying system for the University campus including the careful planning of the keying hierarchy of grandmaster master submaster and rooms keys to create a secure access system.
Makes recommendations as to the effectiveness and appropriateness of various types of locking devices including researching new technologies.
Work with the department and assigned personnel to determine the best access and security needs for entry into buildings offices and other assigned areas.
Maintain the security and software updates of the computer systems including floor plans lock and key assignments and electronic access control systems.
Maintains detailed records of the staff and locks they operate. Tracks and distributes keys accurately. Verifies all keys and other devices are returned to the University when staff terminates.
Prepares locks as needed including key locks pneumatic locking systems electronic locking systems locking cabinets and file cabinets and dial combinations locks.
Installs new locks and door hardware as needed. This would include new constructions remodel projects breakage etc.
Repair and disassemble locks and replace worn tumblers springs and other parts as needed including repairing and adjusting doormounted closers and floor closers.
Code lock cores make keys rekey locks for security purposes and change lock combinations with acceptable proof of the persons right of access.
Maintains records of keys and matching locks.
Performs maintenance work on lock systems and door hardware as required.
Determines schedule of lock inspections and maintenance to ensure timely care of all locking systems campuswide.
Maintains log of inspections performed on locks and corrective work performed; completes monthly reports reflecting locks repaired and cost.
Manages outsourcing repair and maintenance work to vendors including receiving quotes overseeing work and processing invoices.
Operates key reproducing equipment to reproduce keys as needed.
Inspects for and reports any tampering with locking devices.
Maintains the inventory of parts and replacements for locking devices; orders through purchasing as necessary.
May supervise a workstudy or graduate assistant and evaluate the work performance of incumbents.
May assist in training lowerlevel workers.
Perform other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
Knowledge of Locksmith methods practices and safety precautions.
Knowledge of Locksmith laws and regulations.
Ability to operate machinery or equipment necessary for key making.
Ability to use the key cutter portable drills welder computer and miscellaneous hand tools necessary in the locksmith trade.
Ability to maintain inventory of needed parts and tools.
Ability to read interpret and apply lock maintenance and repair manuals policies and procedures
Ability to prepare present and review oral and written information and reports.
Knowledge of computers and software applications specifically MS Word Excel PowerPoint Access Google Sheets and Google Documents
