The Employment Classification and Development division is seeking a General Intern to assist in clearing the paper backlog in Human Resources. Responsibilities include but are not limited to organizing scanning and uploading essential documents to improve operational efficiency enhance record accuracy and reduce physical storage constraints.
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The ideal candidate is detailoriented organized and proficient in handling digital and physical records. They should have strong time management skills to efficiently scan upload and organize documents while maintaining accuracy and compliance with record keeping standards. This individual should have familiarity with document management systems and basic office technology. This position is for individuals interested in gaining handson experience in human resources and administrative functions.
The General Intern classification is a Citywide classification designed to provide access to workforce services and employment opportunities. Duties performed will vary in scope of activity depending on the assigned department.Some positions may include a rotation (of duties) as the intern may be trained on more than one focus area depending on the needs of the division/department.
Participants may only work in this classification in a parttime or fulltime status for up to one calendar year. Incumbents will be limitedterm employees; no regular permanent appointments will be made to this classification. General Interns will be used as a learning and development opportunity to help applicants enter gain experience and succeed in the workforce and will not be used in lieu of hiring regular City employees.

Recruitment Incentive
Upon successful completion of 80 hours of work the City may pay eligible employees a lump sum amount of $250.
Retention Incentive
Upon successful completion of 320 hours of work the City shall pay eligible employees a lump sum amount of $500.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
ThisclassificationisdistinguishedfromtheStudentTrainee and Graduate Traineeclassificationsin that this program does not require the incumbent to be enrolled in an academic program in any capacity. It is distinguished from the Mayor Council Intern classification in that it is a citywide classification.
SUPERVISIONEXERCISEDANDRECEIVED
Immediate supervision may be provided by higherlevel departmental or division personnel. General Interns may provide functional supervision to General Interns.

Must be 16 years of age or older. Beginning January 1 2026 candidates must be at least 18 years of age to qualify for this program.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
For positions where driving is not an essential function the employee must be able to arrange reliable and timely transportation through private or public transportation for attendance at offsite meetings events and trainings.

5. Conditional Hire:Upon receipt of a conditional offer the selected candidate must complete and passLiveScan/fingerprinting. If applicable candidates may also need to pass a preemployment medical exam controlled substance and/or alcohol test and possess any required licensure or certification prior to receiving a start date from the Department. Failure to meet these prerequisites will be grounds for withdrawal of your conditional offer of employment.
