DescriptionThe Shelter Staff Supervisor is responsible for managing shelter staff and coordinating daily operations at emergency shelters serving individuals and families displaced by disaster. This position ensures that shelter services are delivered efficiently and compassionately in accordance with applicable guidelines and standards. The Supervisor works closely with shelter partners emergency management officials and community organizations to support a safe and welcoming space for all residents.
This position is intended for candidates residing in the immediate or surrounding area. Applicants must currently live within reasonable commuting distance. Relocation assistance is not available.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise shelter staff and volunteers including assigning tasks providing direction and ensuring accountability.
- Ensure that shelter operations run smoothly and in accordance with local state and federal sheltering protocols.
- Address operational issues staffing concerns and resident needs as they arise.
- Maintain a visible presence in the shelter to support both staff and residents.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for coordination with external partners and agencies.
- Monitor shelter conditions and address safety cleanliness and logistical concerns.
- Support staff training and onboarding to ensure consistent standards of care and professionalism.
- Resolve conflicts or behavioral issues in a calm and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records of staffing resident occupancy supplies and incidents.
- Communicate regularly with leadership regarding shelter status staffing needs and concerns.
- Assist in emergency preparedness and response planning within the shelter setting.
- Ensure culturally competent and traumainformed practices are upheld at all times.
Requirements - Experience in shelter operations emergency response social services or a related field.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal communication and conflictresolution skills.
- Familiarity with emergency sheltering standards and protocols (e.g. Red Cross FEMA).
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced highstress environment.
- Flexibility to work extended hours including nights and weekends as needed.
- The ability to handle multiple tasks while working in a fastpaced environment and meet deadlines.
- Must have a valid active and clear Drivers license.
