MultiLingual Teacher

Reports To: Building Level Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Terms of Employment:

190 days per school year; salary paid on the Teacher pay scale and work year to be established by the Board

Job Summary:

Responsible for planning coordinating and implementing a comprehensive MultiLingual (ML) program in one or more schools; training and coaching colleagues administrators and staff in the use of effective researchbased methodologies leading to English proficiency development and the academic success of MultiLingual Learners (ML); participating in problemsolving programmatic determinations on behalf of MLs; identifying staff development needs of the school and providing staff development related to English language proficiency development as part of the problemsolving process; and expanding relationships with school and community groups (e.g. Leadership Team ML Committee ML Parent Leadership Council/District Advisory Council Lead Literacy Team learning communities etc. to help ML learners reach their highest potential.

Qualifications:

  • South Carolina certification as required for the position or eligible for appropriate certification
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Strong background in technology skills and applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • ML Endorsement OR a minimum of three 3 of the five 5 required courses for the ML endorsement with an agreement to become ML certified or endorsed within one year of accepting the assignment
  • Experience working with MLLs
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Essential Duties:

  • Consult with school personnel in the delivery and analysis of diagnostic assessments for determining the English language proficiency levels of students in listening speaking reading and writing
  • Collaborate with Language Arts Reading basic subject area and elective teachers in planning and developing appropriate instruction for MLs
  • Plan for the design implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive district model for ML education and 21stcenturylearning
  • Consult with teachers school counselors and administrators to select and schedule MLs into appropriate educational courses to meet their social and developmental needs
  • Collaborate with school personnel in maintaining appropriate documentation of ML instruction and services
  • Collaborate with school personnel in determining the eligibility of MLs
  • Coordinate ML data collection and reporting in collaboration with administrators and data entry operators
  • Analyze and evaluate data related to ML progress and make databased decisionmaking for progress monitoring and academic enhancement
  • Collaborate with school counselors teachers and other school personnel in scheduling and conducting parent/teacher conferences related to ML progress
  • Serve as a member of the schoolbased ML Committee

Physical Requirements:

Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.

Working Conditions:

  • Generally the job requires 20 sitting 40 walking and 40 standing.
  • Requires fine finger dexterity to use office equipment and office technology and maintain accurate filing systems.
  • Effectively coordinate a variety of difficult technical administrative functions at a level requiring extensive independent decisionmaking within established rules policies and procedures
  • Must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • May experience constant interruptions inflexible deadlines and changes to normal routines.
