The Lawrenceville School announces an opening for a college counselor. We are seeking enthusiastic energetic collegial individuals who want to work with both adults and high school students in a collaborative and inclusive academic setting.


Summary: The College Counseling Office builds on and extends the education that takes place in the classroom in the Houses on the athletic fields and in each venue oncampus where active learning takes place. Each college counselor advises a group of seniors including postgraduates supporting educating and encouraging them and their families as they navigate the college admission process.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to a team of college counselors committed to building an inclusive supportive and professionally oriented academic department where professional growth and intraoffice collaboration are both expected and encouraged.
  • Advise and support approximately 3338 students and their families in all aspects of the college admission and application process including facilitating applications to need and meritbased financial aid programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the College Counseling staff school administration and faculty to support College Counseling Office and schoolwide programming.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with college admissions professionals.
  • Write comprehensive school letters of support and initiate appropriate followup for each students candidacy.
  • Actively seek continuous personal development in the field of admission and college counseling including traveling to professional meetings and conferences and visiting college and university campuses.
  • Collaborate with faculty and health care professionals at Lawrenceville to support student mental health and wellness campus overall and throughout the application process
  • Commit to developing their own cultural selfawareness cultural competence and emotional intelligence in their professional growth.
  • Celebrate the backgrounds abilities and identities of all members of our community while supporting Lawrencevilles commitment to belonging for all in the community.
  • Establish competence with web and computerbased software systems such as Veracross SCOIR and Canvas.
  • Two seasons of coaching or equivalent cocurricular commitment including at least one season of interscholastic coaching (or the equivalent).
  • Advise five to eight students and do one evening a week of House duty providing supervision in a student residence from 711:30 pm.
  • Chaperone a weekend activity (dance coffee house etc. twice each term.
  • Work professionally and collaboratively within the department the School and the broader Lawrenceville community.

NonEssential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties as requested
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree or higher.
  • At least three years of experience working in selective college admission.
  • Familiarity with and a desire to continue to learn about a wide range of colleges and universities both in the United States and abroad.
  • Excellent interpersonal and counseling skills and the ability to work effectively with both young people and adults.
  • Outstanding communication (oral and written) abilities and organizational skills.
  • Strong cultural competency skills and commitment to fostering inclusivity in a diverse community.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently as needed and appropriate.
  • The capacity to take initiative work independently think critically and solve problems.
  • Strong computer skills including email communication and electronic submission of documents.
  • Flexibility and the capacity to adapt to the dynamic and everevolving college admissions landscape.
  • Able to travel to different colleges and universities during the year (when conditions permit).
