INTRODUCTION OF THE POST
The post holder will be a member of INTERPOLs Environmental Security Programme (ENS). ENS supports law enforcement agencies to tackle all types of environmental crime such as wildlife crime forestry crime fisheries crime pollution crime and illegal mining. In addition environmental crime is also facilitated by many other crime types including document fraud and money laundering. The post holder will be required to facilitate law enforcement cooperation to tackle environmental crimes using INTERPOLs information systems and increase the flow and exchange of information to enable the identification of international criminal networks operating in this crime area.
PRIMARY DUTIES
The Criminal Intelligence Officer is expected to carry out a combination of the following operationalduties and activities under regular supervision of his/her hierarchy and in light of the Projectobjectives (when assigned to a Project):
Increase the flow and exchange of information related to environmental crime through INTERPOLs information system.
Support the organization of law enforcement meetings including selection of participants preparation of the agenda and meeting facilitation.
Act as a point of contact for NCBs other Law Enforcement Agencies and other partners from the civil society (including NGOs and private sector) regarding requests for information operational/investigative assistance and international law enforcement cooperation.
Draft and disseminate basic criminal intelligence products such as crosscheck reports positive hit reports crime threat or trend alerts.
Develop and promote law enforcement best practice handbooks for investigators.
Develop and deliver capacity building programmes aiming to enhance international law enforcement response to tackling environmental crimes.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
