Position Summary
The Communication Lab is an integral component of the Division of Student Success. The Assistant Director will support the Director in enhancing students communication skills across disciplines focusing on oneonone consultations and active learning strategies. This role involves overseeing the daytoday operations of both the physical and online Communication Lab assisting in staff training and contributing to program development that aligns with the Centers commitment to fostering inclusive and engaging support in writing speaking and multimodal communication for a diverse student population.
Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree in Communication Studies English Education or a closely related field. Minimum three years of experience in communication centers support or academic support services. Demonstrated knowledge in oral communication theory and practice. Experience in training and supervising student workers in an academic support setting. Familiarity with Microsoft 365 products especially teams for online writing consultations. Experience in developing and delivering communication training programs. Strong commitment to promoting diversity equity and inclusion within the academic community.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a communications center (e.g. writing center or speaking center). Experience in curriculum development and working with faculty to integrate writing speaking and/or multimodal support into coursework. Record of engaging in research or assessment related to support center effectiveness and student outcomes. Proven ability to collaborate with faculty across disciplines to integrate speaking support into curricular and cocurricular activities.
