Job Description

Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor (MD Labor)Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidatesfor the position of UI Contributions Tax Auditor I. This recruitment will be used to fillcurrent and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintainedfor one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary objective of this role is toconduct business audits in Maryland to verify their adherence to the MarylandUnemployment Insurance Law.

POSITION DUTIES

This job is an entrylevel position thatinvolves conducting audits and investigations to examine and analyze employerspayroll and business records. Thepurpose of these audits is to determine or confirm liability under UnemploymentInsurance law in accordance with federal tax performance standard whileadhering to division and federal policies.This role can be performed independently or as part of an audit team anddoes not involve supervising other positions. The responsibilities of this position include conducting audits ofunemployment instances handling delinquent employer accounts and performingother duties related to the employers liability for unemployment insurancetaxes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelors degree in accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in accounting and related courses including or supplemented by 3 credit hours in auditing.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Applicants who had met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1 1974 will be considered to have met the education requirement.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Internal Review classifications or Auditing specialty codes in the Financial or Auditing fields of work on a yearforyear basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicantswho possess the following preferred qualification(s).Include clear and specific information on your application regardingyour qualifications.

Experience preparing analyzing and interpreting financial reports and statements.

Experience conducting audits and investigations.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Personnel employed in thisclassification will have access to federal tax information and must undergo astate and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment.

All candidates are subject to abackground check against files maintained by the Division ofUnemploymentInsurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUIas a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt mayhave an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

1. Employees in this classification are required to travel to multiple locations within their assigned territory.

2. Employees in this classification are providedand required to use a laptop computer.
