  1. Research interests in the field of literacy TESOL or teacher professional development
  2. Current fulltime enrollment in a graduate program with a course of study in curriculum and instruction educational psychology linguistics speech language pathology special education or related fields.
  3. Skills in the use of Microsoft Office and willingness to learn how to use survey tools (e.g. Qualtrics) cloudbased applications (e.g. Google Docs Microsoft Teams) and course management system (i.e. Canvas) as determined through application materials and interview process
  4. Effective organizational skills as determined through application materials and interview process
  5. Research skills (i.e. knowledge and skills to use database) as determined through application materials and interview process
  6. Communication skills as determined through application materials and interview process
  7. In Good Academic Standing and be making satisfactory progress toward a graduate degree
  8. Ability to successfully pass a background check
  9. During the semester term of the appointment the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1 have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2 be preenrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3 be enrolled in summer session or 4 be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted forGRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)


  1. Experience in working with professionals or students in early childhood elementary secondary college or adult education settings
  2. Coursework in second language acquisition methods of teaching English as a second language methods of teaching literacy child development language pathology psychology special education applied behavioral sciences or related field.
  3. Foundational knowledge about educational research designs


Position Overview
The Department of Curriculum and Teaching is seeking to hire one Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) to work 50 FTE 20 hours per week) for a Professional Development project funded by Department of Education Office of English Language Acquisition. The Professional Development will 1 support preservice and inservice teachers in completing professional development related to English language learners and 2 provide early childhood educators with professional development.

Responsibilities include assisting with project activities conducting literature reviews collecting and analyzing data and attending regular meetings with CoPIs.

This position requires strong organizational and communication skills attention to detail and the ability to collaborate effectively with a team of professionals. All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.

An individual working 20 hours per week will have the full cost of their tuition sponsored.

This position is for theacademic year.

Opportunities for 2025 summer employment before the official start date may be available based on project needs and funding

The position may be renewed for summer 2026 and theacademic year based on job performance and funding availability.

Per the State of Kansas student employees may hold concurrent appointments not to exceed maximum appointment and hours worked levels. However concurrent student appointments must be of matching FLSA designation (exempt/salaried or nonexempt/hourly).
