JOB TITLE:Teacher Homebound / Hospital Bedside

REPORTS TO:Manager of Special Education Accountability & Related Services

WAGE/HOUR STATUS:Exempt

PAY GRADE: Teachers Salary

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The role of the Homebound / Hospital Bedside Teacher is to provide direct academic instruction to special education 504 or general education students who are served at home or at hospital bedside due to a medical condition that precludes them from attending their home campus for 4 or more weeks. The responsibilities of the Homebound / Hospital Bedside teacher encompass the entire cycle of the instructional delivery service. The delivery of this service is unique for each individual depending on each childs medical and disabling conditions. For some students the Homebound / Hospital Bedside Teacher will collaborate with the home campus teachers to gather the childs lessons and materials; implement the lessons; and return the students work back to the campus teacher for evaluation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelors and/or Masters degree from an accredited college or university
  • Dual certified in General Education and Special Education

Preferred:

  • Two years experience working with students with disabilities
  • Two years experience working with children in a behavioral program
  • CPR First Aid and NCI certification (district will provide training if qualified candidate lacks certification in these areas)

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Ability to connect disability conditions to eligibilities to specialized instruction
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior within a selfcontained environment
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to ensure that accommodations modifications and behavior intervention plans are implemented.
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Computer skills
  • Willingness to learn Special Ed programming (ESped)
  • How to interpret a students FIE create a students PLAAFP and goals & objectives
  • Strong Classroom and behavioral management

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Assumes responsibility for the instructional program of students determined eligible for special education 504 or general education
  • The Homebound / Hospital Bedside teachers day consist of 8.5 hours with a 30minute lunch.Teachers may start their day at one of the following places based on schedule (HB office school campus hospital or a students home)
  • Ability to work independently and willing to work flexible schedule.
  • Willing to go into homes or hospitals to serve students.
  • Contacts and communicates with campus teacher of record parent/surrogate/hospital regularly.
  • Provides accurate documentation of visits on weekly documentation log.
  • Maintains documentation and a description of instructional services provided to each student on their weekly documentation logs.
  • Communicates with students teachers and related service providers to ensure all services are provided
  • Completes monthly SHARS/Medicaid on each student.
  • Manages the classroom to create an environment conducive to learning.
  • Homebound/ Hospital Bedside teachers may be asked to perform other duties as assigned by their supervisors.
  • Exemplifies professionalism in behavior and performance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: physical demands: physical mobility prolonged sitting and standing some lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling reaching/repetitive hand motions and the ability to work with frequent interruptions. May be required to lift or position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist nonambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.

Mental demands: ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
