Primary Purpose of Position:
Do you enjoy working with numbers ensuring financial accuracy and supporting a team with your keen attention to detail The Division of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking a Accounting Technician I to manage and audit financial transactions reconcile department accounts and oversee department Procurement Cards. Your expertise will help maintain fiscal integrity as you respond to inquiries provide guidance on financial procedures and train division staff on best practices. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Provide training/consultation to Division staff to ensure that procedures and guidelines are being adhered to.

  • Oversee and work with Division reconcilers via the Divisions Money Counts database for PCard reconcilement and management to ensure that transactions are processed accurately

  • Audit all transactions to ensure that all Department of Natural and Cultural Resources as well as the Division of Parks and Recreation policy processes and procedures are being adhered to and report any transactions that are deemed to be inappropriate or outside of DNCR and/or DPR policy.

  • Work with DNCRs Procurement Reconciler to address any transactions that need additional research or actions.

  • Communicate with division employees management and the general public responding to inquiries vary from a variety of accounting code sheets invoices policy and procedural questions to inquiries that require collaboration and followup.

  • Oversee the divisions fixed assets by maintaining an uptodate database creating fixed asset numbers inputting new assets and removing old assets.

  • Obtain Notary Public certification to provide support across various sections including but not limited to Human Resources Construction Major Maintenance Parks and Recreation Trust Fund Land Acquisition Team Law Enforcement Swearing In etc.

Position/Physical Requirements:
  • Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm or 8:30am 5:30pm
  • Must be able to obtain a Notary Public certification.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must have or be able to:

Management Preferences:
  • Experience with North Carolina Financial Management Systems and North Carolina Purchasing and Contracting System
  • Experience with managing federal grants; planning and implementing changes to financial systems
  • Experience with MS Excel

Veterans and National Guard Preference
