Description of Job

This Correctional Support Licensed Trades Supervisor II (CSLTS II) is a Licensed Boiler Operator Lieutenant at the Denver Correctional Complex. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to: ensuring the safety and security of the general public staff and inmates; ensuring safe efficient and compliant operation of facility Boiler House systems and supervising assigned staff and inmate work crews. This position promotes the Colorado Department of Corrections Mission Vision and Values with honesty integrity and commitment.

Safety and Security This position maintains the safety and security of facility and work sites; through clear and accurate communication; trains and guides staff and inmates in the proper use of controlled items keys tools equipment and chemicals. Through conscientious observation clear communications and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations facility Implementation Adjustments Operational Memorandum and the Code of Penal Discipline this position promotes a safe and secure environment.

This position is subject to facility call back or working additional hours or shifts to maintain safety and security.

Inmate Supervision This position participates in the interview and hiring process in order to ensure appropriate placement of inmates on work crews and that training needs are met; ensures inmate workers are trained in all aspects of Boiler House operations (correct methods tool use and care reading blueprints and project planning); while monitoring project progress inspecting work and ensuring timely completion of tasks. This position ensures inmate evaluations are complete tracks and calculates inmate hours and pay creates schedules and assigns tasks and resolves informal grievances according to agency policy while reducing inmate idleness and creating real life work opportunities that prepare inmates for community reentry.

May provide supervisory duties in the absence of other supervisors.

Operations This position ensures the safe efficient compliant and cost effective of assigned tasks and projects by performing hands on instructional work alongside staff and inmates. This position is responsible for facility boiler house water treatment plant and assists with HVAC systems ensuring proper operations through constant monitoring testing recording and certifying and by completing corrective preventive and predictive maintenance and routine inspections of those systems.
Position coordinates logistical support with other trades and shops in order to use resources efficiently; monitors progress and quality of work; completes required documentation such as work orders and incident reports; provides assistance as necessary to other operational areas of the maintenance department.
This position ensures all work completed is in compliance with the American Correctional Association (ACA) and any other applicable agency; local state or federal regulations policy and standards; maintains accurate and timely documentation and record keeping for all assigned areas. Reviews historical data obtains vendor price quotes when planning projects and ensures resources and supplies remain within allotted budget. With prior purchase approval and in accordance with fiscal rules and policies this position maintains supplies by determining quantities of spare parts and material to be kept on hand and performing periodic inventories to ensure availability and determine usage. This position implements procedures for efficient inventory and elimination of theft waste and loss and initiates requisitions for additional supply purchases insuring accountability and proper processing. This position updates drawings and maintains records files and drawings ensuring the availability of maintenance manuals pertinent to this field of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications:

License Active Colorado Stationary Engineer Certification (You must attach a copy of your license/certificate to your application)

Experience Five 5 years of employment experience as a utility plant or boiler operator performing preventive predictive and corrective maintenance on steam or hydronic hot water boilers and associated pumps motors and plumbing and/or installing and repairing boiler systems.

OR:

Five 5 years of employment experience installing repairing and maintaining HVAC systems which must include hot water boilers or steam boilers above 15 psi.

OR:

Applicant may meet the five year requirement with a combination of work experience as follows:
A minimumof two 2 years of experience as described above may be combined with the following types of experience for a total of five 5 or more years.
Plumbing Pipefitting and/or HVAC employment performing preventive predictive and corrective maintenanceorinstallations and repairs in residential commercial or industrial facilities.

Correctional Experience must besecurity related duties whereprimary responsibilities includeddetaining controlling movement and escorting inmates in a prison facility; conducting counts and searches while monitoring inmate assignments and movement throughout the day.

Substitutions:
Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or degree through an accredited non correspondence vocational or trade school that resulted in demonstrated competencies equivalent to those learned through the required experience may substitute for experience on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualification:

Experience providing supervisory/work lead duties making decisions or recommendations that affect the pay status or tenure of subordinate staff or inmates.

Supervisionis exercising span and control over subordinate staff to include coaching mentoring daily monitoring performance management (planning reviewing and evaluating) resolving complaints/grievances at the informal level responsibility for scheduling and leave approval and providing input that could affect pay status or tenure

  • Ability to respond to emergency situations involving offenders or Physical Plant systemissues;
  • Determination to follow policyand provide efficienteffective service whileutilizing state resources responsibly;
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work in high tight and confined spaces.
