POSITION: Assistant Chief Medical officer
DESCRIPTION: Under direction of the Chief Medical officer (CMO) and in close cooperation with the clinic management team the Assistant CMO is responsible for oversight of the Director of Pediatrics Director of Family Medicine and Director of Advanced Practice Clinicians. In addition the Assistant CMO will oversee the specialist providers and vaccines department. The Assistant CMO assists with recruitment evaluations etc. He/she performs duties and responsibilities of a physician and assists the CMO as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Assists CMO in medical/leadership duties as assigned including identifying best practices in primary care
2.Contributes to the monthly Chief Medical Officer report to the Board of Directors
3.Assists with supervising the peer review committee.
4.Assists with the retention of providers/midlevel licensed staff.
5.Supports the efforts of the Chief Operations Officer (COO) and Clinic Managers to ensure optimal patient flow.
6.Maintains a valid professional license updated CPR certificate and valid California drivers license; submits copies of renewed licenses and certificates to Human Resources.
7.Provides or arranges inservice training to Medical providers and staff.
8.Attends and participates (or designee) in staff meetings eg: quality assurance quality improvement leadership meetings clinic administrative and management team activities.
9.Works with the Board and Administration towards fulfilling agency mission.
10.Works with CMO COO and other Salud Executives/Leaders to implement and develop department and staffing programs that will benefit primary care services in the clinic.
11.Works with the CMO to develop appropriate clinical quality measures in primary care
12.Consistently adheres to and/or exceed SPLGs communication guidelines and expectations with internal and external customers including coworkers patients and external partners.
13.Communicates effectively professionally and in a courteous manner at all times.
14.Listens skillfully and displays a willingness and ability to acknowledge patient and coworkers needs expectations and values through the use of reflective listening and empathy conveyance. Responds to coworker and patient needs in ways that are helpful and beyond expectation.
MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION
15.Works with the CMO COO and other members of the Executive and management team to improve clinic flow and programs related to pediatrics
16.Directly supervises and consults with physicians and midlevel practitioners.
DIRECT PATIENT CARE
17.Performs direct patient care including history taking physical examination diagnostic procedures therapy and followup under established protocols.
18.Institutes emergency measures in lifethreatening situations.
19.Prescribes and administers routine medical treatment; plans and initiates health maintenance and rehabilitation for each patient including methods such as special diets exercises vitamin supplements immunizations etc.; writes prescriptions for medication; orders and interprets laboratory analysis and Xrays;.
20.Refers secondary conditions as necessary assisting in further examination diagnosis and treatment; makes appropriate referrals to external and internal services for health and psychosocial needs including followup to ensure patient compliance.
MEDICAL QUALITY ASSURANCE
21.Responsible for the efficient and costeffective delivery of quality medical services to all patients treated by the clinic.
22.Ensures that the Quality Assurance/Quality Management and Peer Review Programs are functional and effective.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of: the principles practices and procedures used in pediatric or family medicine to detect diagnose and treat health problems; of medications and ; of care and control of chronic and communicable diseases illness and handicapping conditions; of laboratory tests and their clinical significance; of the principles and practices of public health medicine laws and regulations; of the ethics of patient care; of referral systems and community resources.
Ability to: treat counsel and educate clients who are primarily monolingual farm workers and their families; communicate effectively and respectfully with people from different racial ethnic and cultural backgrounds and lifestyles demonstrating a knowledge of and sensitivity to their needs; to maintain effective working relationships with agency staff clients other community agencies the medical community and the public; to promote a participatory work environment; to plan analytically for the present and future circumstances; to utilize a broad perspective in the development of the various components of the clinic; and to enhance the image of the agency in the community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Valid California Physicians and Surgeons license
Fluent Spanish/English
Prior administrative experience preferred

Standing walking sitting typing reaching bending moving and/or lifting up to 50 pounds.
