The Department of Pediatrics at CHEO University of Ottawa is recruiting Pediatric Hospitalists within the Division of Pediatric Medicine.
The Department of Pediatrics is affiliated with CHEO the CHEO Research Institute and the University of Ottawa. Together we provide outstanding patient care leading research and quality pediatric medical education. The Department of Pediatrics provides health care to newborns children and youth of the Ottawa area as well as those from Eastern Ontario Western Quebec Nunavut and parts of Northern Ontario (population of approximately 1.8 million). The Department of Pediatrics has 18 distinct divisions which includes Pediatric Medicine.
The Division of Pediatric Medicine is recruiting Pediatric Hospitalists to provide care on the medical inpatient units in a staff pediatrician capacity. The applicant should have expertise or interest in hospital pediatric medicine including care of patients with medical complexity. The successful candidate(s) will have the opportunity to work as the staff pediatrician for several weeks on the CTUs and the Inpatient Complex Care Service. The contracted total number of weeks of inpatient service will be discussed with remuneration on an individual basis.
CHEOs inpatient medical units admit a large breadth and volume of pediatric patients throughout the year. Encountered conditions are widely varied including children with medical complexity as well as those with common pediatric illnesses. There are approximately 3000 admissions and 16000 patient days annually on the CTU representing approximately 40 of the total inpatient hospital activity. CHEO has representation in all pediatric subspecialties.
The successful candidate(s) will have extensive opportunity to develop clinical skills in relation to care of the hospitalized child or youth with a variety of acute pediatric and complex medical conditions. They will also provide clinical teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels during an exciting time with the arrival of the competency by design curriculum. Immersion in inpatient and outpatient domains will provide great opportunity to develop tertiary level consulting pediatric skills. The position comes with an academic appointment at the University of Ottawa.
