Job Description
The Department of Film and Media Arts within the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Syracuse University is seeking applications for a nontenuretrack Assistant Teaching Professor in Sound Design starting in August 2025. This is a threeyear appointment starting on August 18 2025 with the possibility of renewal based on exceptional performance and institutional need. The successful candidate will play a vital role in our Film program bringing their sound design expertise and industry knowledge directly into the classroom. The Department of Film and Media Arts is a leading academic center for the education of media artists and professionals. Our programs offer students valuable studio experiences in wellequipped facilities complemented by rigorous academic studies and comprehensive courses covering media arts history diverse theory and contemporary issues. Responsibilities
Successful candidate will fully participate in the life of the department and program and contribute to our educational mission. The candidate will bring their filmmaking expertise and industry knowledge directly into the classroom. The current teaching load is 4/4 and is generally split between 80 teaching 20 service which includes participating in departmental meetings and fulfilling assigned duties. There may be opportunities to reduce the teaching load pending assignments and enrollment.
Qualifications
MFA in Film Film and Media Arts Sound Design Sound Recording Sound Art Sonic Art or a related discipline. Advanced degree holders and those with equivalent professional experience are encouraged to apply. At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in the field. At least 3 years of teaching experience.
