QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license and CPR certification. This individual should demonstrate strong leadership abilities including the capacity to guide and support school nurses by providing inservice training and professional development. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential for building positive relationships with administrators staff parents students and community partners. The Lead School Nurse must be capable of preparing clear and concise reports and effectively utilizing relevant computer systems. Flexibility is important as the role requires collaboration in various situations and occasional travel to multiple school locations as needed.
DESCRIPTION
The Lead School Nurse acts in a lead role to school nurses; assists with developing division standardized school health procedures; provides technical assistance and consultation to school nurses; develops/conducts inservice training to school nurses regarding specialized techniques and procedures; assists school nurses as needed in developing/conducting training for school staff; provides support to schools in the absence of their school nurse; implements division wide school health programs and initiatives as assigned. In addition the Lead School Nurse will work collaboratively with the school principals and central office administration to observe and monitor school nurses to ensure that regulations and appropriate mandated practices are followed.
GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the general supervision of the Supervisor of Pupil Personnel and building principals in accordance with the policies and regulations adopted by the school division. This position has direct employee supervisory responsibility over division nurses as well as the responsibility for inservice training consultation oversight and technical support for division school nurses.
WORK CONDITIONS
This position typically operates within the school clinics which may include an area for nursing assessments and treatments. The Lead Nurse may also travel between classrooms or other areas of the school to provide care or conduct health screenings. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious diseases bodily fluids and medical emergencies. The Lead Nurse may need to lift or move students who require assistance as well as carry medical supplies and equipment. Additionally the Lead Nurse may be required to attend meetings training sessions and school events as part of their responsibilities.
