The Business Development Manager (BDM) will primarily support and work under the direction of the Director of Business Development in leading new business development activities. The BDM will also work in collaboration with IDGs technical teams to provide crosscutting coordination on strategic capture and proposal development activities. S/he will contribute to research and analysis of opportunities at the donor industry and country levels; and lead bidnobid analytics. As the proposal manager the BDM is responsible for leading highperformance proposal teams effective liaison with partners; and ensuring the submission of compliant highquality bids. The BDM will also support the daytotoday management of BD operations and systems client outreach/marketing efforts and support corporatewide BD training and mentoring activities.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide support to the Director of Business Development executing the companys newbusiness agenda. Work closely with other dedicated BD team members including another BDManager and a BD Specialist.
Lead strategic new business client marketing/messaging plans; develop email/call plans toimplement directly with IDG technical leads; build and maintain a database to track andmanage client relationships.
Lead and perform market opportunity research towards BD Pipeline building includingcountry analysis for target sectors and competitive landscaping for incumbent projects.
Monitor and share information about new opportunities donor funding trends and relevantcountry information from outside sources of news.
Oversee and continuously utilize market intelligence that will assist with capture planning.Support and lead capture planning activities.
Manage proposal development for bids when needed including the comprehensive prepositioning for proposals and managing live proposals ensuring that proposals meet donor compliance and IDGs quality assurance standards.
Gather technical input and competitive intelligence from IDG technical teams partners subjectmatter specialists and other resource persons.
Liaise with IDG technical leads partners and consultants to conceptualize and designproposals.
Work in collaboration with technical recruiters and the pricing team on bids.
Support bidnobid analysis and decisionmaking.
Support the facilitation of strategic partnerships with other organizations.
Coordinate teaming agreements memoranda of understanding and other institutionalagreements with partners; and help negotiate partnership arrangements and budgets.
Maintain accurate business development opportunities trackers and assist with analysis ofproposal development data; maintain accurate and timely electronic files; and ensure thatrelevant information is accessible to and circulated to the portfolio members.
Oversee recruitment efforts for key personnel and other proposal staffing requirements.
As appropriate draft sections of proposals expressions of interest sources sought and requestfor information.
Serve as editor and proofreader of BD/marketing and proposal content as necessary.
Supervise mentor and guide direct reports in supporting new business development.
Mentor and support staff training and orientations on new business best practices processesand procedures.
As required provide support to the recruitment of proposed personnel for technical proposals.
Supervise the work of proposal consultants as needed.
Other tasks as required by the Director of Business Development and IDGs SeniorLeadership Executive Team.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of a Bachelors degree and at least 57 years of relevant work experience. Or agraduate degree and at least 35 years of relevant work experience. A graduatelevel degree isstrongly preferred.
At least 23 years experience serving as a proposal manager for largescale multiyearUSAIDfunded contracts above $10M required. Having BD experience with other major international development donors is highly desirable.
Knowledge of economic growth or monitoring and evaluation is a strong plus.
Excellent interpersonal collaboration and teambuilding skills. Ability to supervise differentfunctional unit teams and build strong crossfunctional relationships within the home office.
Excellent planning and time management skills. Must demonstrate the ability to multitask withease while adapting to frequently changing priorities. Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to take initiative and problem solve as well as think critically and analytically.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure and maintain quality detail and organization acrossmultiple assignments. Must have high attention to detail and superb organizational skills.
Ability to travel internationally.
Fluency in English. Bilingual in French or Spanish is a plus.
