Basic Custodian Floater

We are accepting applications for the following permanent 1.0 FTE) Floater Basic Custodian position.

Mitchell District High

1.0 FTE

The home base school will be Mitchell District High School. This position will be deployed to replace absent staff in schools across the district as well as to provide additional support to specific sites for special projects or to assist during peak workload periods. Appropriate mileage will be paid as per AP 515Travel & Expense Reimbursement.

The Basic Custodian duties may include:

Building Maintenance

  • change lights
  • shovel snow
  • operate snow blower
  • clean and inspect roof
  • operate grass cutting equipment
  • perform minor repairs
  • conduct health and safety checks
  • service roof top unit

Building Cleaning

  • operate and maintain all equipment
  • perform all minor and major cleaning as outlined in cleaning checklists and Standard Operating Procedures

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. climb stairs ladders and scaffolding;
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in 1 or more of the trade disciplines eg. plumbing electrical carpentry;
  • exemplary interpersonal professional and organizational skills;
  • the ability to use a computer eg. GAFE;
  • experience in handling machinery ie. buffing machine lawn mowers snowblowers;
  • knowledge of proper usage of hazardous chemicals and cleaning supplies; and
  • satisfactory attendance will be a consideration when awarding this position.

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week with a minimum hour unpaid lunch break for a total of 8.5 hours per day hours per week 12 months per year. Shift work is involved.

Employment Start Date: Immediately

Compensation Package Details:

Rate of Pay: $25.10$25.59 ofUNIFOR Collective Agreement

Pension Plan : Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System OMERS
