About Us:

We are leaders in mental health service delivery specialising in working with adults and young people and in early childhood intervention.

About the service:

The Medicare Mental Health Services are free and you do not need an appointment referral or Medicare card to visit a Medicare Mental Health Centre. The new services in Devonport Burnie and Outer Hobart are cofunded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country.

The service is tailored to the needs of the community in Tasmania and provides a combination of peerled recovery and clinical support.

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress allowing them to:

  • Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department
  • Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community

Role Overview:

  • Mentor and support consumers in a personled strengths focused and recoveryoriented way to support hope and promote resilience and who models the possibility and longevity of recovery;
  • Build respectful professional and appropriate relationships with consumers based around conversations which draw from personal experiences and emotions to support people in their journey of recovery;
  • Inform and contribute to employees learning and service understanding and advocate on systemic issues impacting people living with mental health issues.


Requirements:

  • Cert IV in Mental Health Peer Work or a willingness to complete
  • Lived experience of your own mental illness and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery and proactivity in managingwellbeing
  • A willingness to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery
  • Ability to foster and maintain respectful professional relationships with consumers staff and organisations
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and work independently
  • Computer literacy
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
