Job Description

This is a fulltime 12month nontenure track faculty appointment with duties in the High Point University Workman School of Dental (WSDM) which includes the Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and postdoctoral programs such as pediatric dentistry. Professional rank will be commensurate with the candidates level of experience and qualifications at time of hire.

The Founding Director for Pediatric Dentistry is responsible for developing the pediatric dentistry residency program faculty recruitment supervision of residents providing patient care and predoctoral pediatric dentistry. The program director will be responsible for achieving accreditation by the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards. This is a unique leadership opportunity to build programs and work closely with the executive leadership team (ELT). The position will report to the executive leadership team (ELT) of the Workman School of Dental Medicine.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • DDS or DMD degree (or foreign equivalent) active full dental licensure in the state of North Carolina
  • Completion of a CODAaccredited pediatric dentistry program in the US.
  • Must be certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Experience and Training

  • 5 years of experience in clinical practice of dentistry
  • Leadership experience and program building is preferable.
  • Proficiency in providing pediatric dental care in an ambulatory inpatient operating room and urgent care setting.

Knowledge Skills Ability:

  • Robust verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional receptiveness and approachability
  • Poised and professional in representation of HPU WSDM
  • Receptive to feedback performance improvement and continuous coaching Knowledge of HPU SDMOHs core values and mission

  • Clinical documentation diagnosis and treatment planning using electronic health records (EHR) such as EPIC systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The candidate selected for this position will perform all duties directed by the Dean of the WSDM and executive leadership team (ELT). The candidate will be expected to perform the following duties including but not limited to:

Pediatric Dentistry program development

Familiarity with and management of all programrelated documents and reporting platforms including but not limited to resident employment resident attendance faculty onboarding resident licensure resident requirements resident and program outcomes resident certification and GMErelated and programrelated policies. Oversight and monitoring of all programrelated evaluations and reporting. Orientation of new residents and faculty. Pointofcontact person for any issues related to the Pediatric Dentistry program.

Quality Assurance

Implementation of quality improvement (QI) measures across the Pediatric Dentistry program to ensure highest level of patient care and residency learning are being always provided. Utilizing proactive approaches to mitigate errors and root cause analysis to reduce errors. Frequent travel to practice sites to ensure faculty and resident experiences are being met.

Accreditation

In addition to developing the inaugural Pediatric Dentistry program at Workman School of Dental Medicine (WSDM) the founding program director will ensure that it meets all standards required by the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA). This includes preparation for internal program audit (mock visits) and ensuring compliance of all practice sites within the oral health network. During the program accreditation process the individual will be expected to see pediatric dental patients.

Education

Development of residency curriculum faculty calibration evidencebased care guidelines continuing education and teaching predoctoral students in accordance with the needs of the Assistant Dean of Curriculum and Innovation.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Chief Clinical Officer Dean
  • Evaluation: Ongoing performance reviews is conducted along with an annual assessment by the CCO and includes input from the faculty and students.
