Join our team as a Career Transition & Engagement Coordinator and play a crucial role in enhancing the career readiness of StFX students. You will have the opportunity to work with students individually and in groups providing tailored career guidance and support to help them identify their strengths and interests and develop effective strategies for their career goals. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about students career development values diversity and can create an inclusive environment.
Reporting to the Manager Student Career Centre Coop Education and Work Experience Programs the Career Transition & Engagement Coordinator will take the lead in the development and facilitation of comprehensive and holistic career programming for equity deserving students including students involved with the Inclusive Youth Employment Initiative (tentative name). Additionally this role manages the wage subsidy for the summer work experience component and will assist with building the Guided Opportunities initiative. The primary goal of this Initiative is to increase students selfawareness career goals workplace connections and employability in Nova Scotia. The Career Transition & Engagement Coordinator will inspire students to connect their university experience to future career goals. This role will work in close partnership with the Diversity and Engagement Centre Dr. Agnes Calliste Academic & Cultural Centre Kiknu: the Indigenous Student Centre and the Coady International Institute.
Manages aspects of the wage subsidy summer employment program including student intake schedules employer cultural awareness training employment contract reviews student monitoring wage subsidy reimbursement conflict resolution student support data collection reporting etc.
Collaborates with our colleagues in the Coady Institute to develop and organize the leadership/employment workshop and the projectend community engagement forum with youth and employers community champions/mentors/coaches LSI Coady and StFX.
Helps current StFX students advance their career development goals through oneonone group basis workshops and events. Assisting with career exploration career planning labour market research career assessments educational planning professional school and continuing education job search strategies resume and cover letter construction interview skills networking work/life/leadership skills along with other career development topics.
Works in collaboration with the Student Career Centre and internal partners to identify career/personal development themes to promote through workshops and/or outreach campaigns. Develops and facilitates appropriate program materials Career Centre Moodle and training for students including skill enhancement for employment as well as life and leadership skills to maintain and sustain employment which align with standards for equity diversity inclusion and accessibility (EDIA).
Develops and implements student engagement/communication strategy implementing EDIA with a specific focus on reaching historically underrepresented groups.
Work in collaboration with the Human Rights Education & Response Advocate to oversee the cultural competency sessions for employers.
Facilitates students connections with other experiential learning opportunities and student organizations both on and off campus.
Assists with special projects as identified in the Student Experience & Opportunity Plan and collaborates with the various internal departments including the Office of Experiential Learning.
Participates in meetings and actively contributes to the success of the Student Career Services Diversity Engagement Centre Dr. Agnes Calliste Academic & Cultural Centre Kiknu: the Indigenous Student Centre through various new initiatives.
Works in collaboration to assist with the development of a career development program curriculum and other online videos/modules.
Implement strategies that will reduce barriers to participation in EL opportunities for students from historically excluded populations.
