BethuneCookman University Job Title: Residential Mental Health Specialist Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Director of Behavioral Health & Resource Services Division: Student Affairs Student Health Services Job Summary: The Residential Mental Health Specialist will provide mental health counseling and crisis intervention to students residing in residence halls. Mental Health Specialist will promote optimal mental and emotional health by assisting students with issues associated with stress management selfesteem depression behavioral concerns (anger) relationships addictions and substance abuse and family/parenting/marital concerns. Make referrals to campus Mental Health Practioners for followup. Duties/Responsibilities:- Report directly to the Director of Behavioral Health and indirectly to the Director of Student Health Services.
- Collaborates with the Mental Health Practitioners Residential Life Personnel Office of the Dean of Students Chaplaincy and Campus Safety.
- Provide suicide/crisis intervention.
- Provide mental health intervention to students in overcoming dependencies in adjustment to college life and making appropriate decisions and changes. In conjunction with Mental Health Practitioners participates in planning coordinating and implementing campuswide programming that supports the Behavioral Health department as well as institutional goals and objectives.
- Promotes helpseeking behaviors within the student body to replace myths and stigmas associated with mental health counseling.
- Helps students identify mitigate and/or remove factors that impede possible success in the area of academics vocational emotional and or personal growth. Assist students in defining goals and plans of action.
- Accurately and properly document all contacts made with students by conducting intake assessments treatment planning and maintaining case records in the Medicat electronic health records system.
- Participate where appropriate and in conjunction with Mental Health Practitioners in conducting surveys and assessments to gather information from participants and make decisions that are datadriven and reflect best practices.
- Abides by confidentiality guidelines while providing support to faculty staff and parents as appropriate during times of crises. Both FERPA and HIPAA guidelines/policies will be adhered to.
- Partners and strengthens relationships with internal partners
- Participate in the development of effective communication tools online and in print for students faculty and staff as it relates to behavioral health.
- Participates in the Behavioral Assessment Intervention Team (BAIT) where appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health & Resource Services and Director of Student Health Services.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:- Masters Degree in Counseling/ Psychology
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida
- 3 years of mental health counseling experience

- Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student population
- Selfstarter who can work in a fastpaced dynamic teamoriented and culturally diverse environment.
- Must be available evenings and weekends when needed.
