Role overview
Mensline Counsellors provide phonebased support to men across Queensland who are experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) or are perpetrators of DFV. As the primary point of contact Mensline Counsellors respond to incoming calls promptly and are required to complete comprehensive DFV risk and needs assessments to determine whether the caller has recently or historically used violence intended to use violence or experienced interpersonal violence.
Using an intersectional and traumainformed approach Mensline Counsellors provide appropriate responses to manage risks and maximise the safety of those in need of protection. Based on the assessments they develop suitable safety plans and referral pathways. Additionally Mensline Counsellors are expected to offer compassionate nonjudgmental crisis counselling and psychological first aid to support emotional and psychological concerns. Furthermore they provide relevant information and clear guidance to assist callers in navigating available support services.
As the Mensline Team Leader you will lead coach and mentor our dedicated team of Mensline Counsellors to support to men across Queensland who are experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV) or are using DFV.
Key responsibilities of the role include (but not limited to);
- support the Service Delivery Manager (SDM) and when required the Director of Client Services by reviewing and developing processes procedures and policies to ensure practice delivery meets HSQF requirements.
- demonstrate initiative and draw on existing knowledge skills and experience to lead service delivery in accordance with operational contractual and legislative obligations.
- oversee staff development performance planning and reviews and provide practical support and development and contribute to the identification of training needs.
- foster and maintain positive professional relationships with external stakeholders such as Government Departments and nongovernment organisations.
- represent DVConnect at external events as required
Requirements
To be eligible for consideration this position requires clinical experience in at least 1 one of the following areas Domestic family and intimate partner violence sexual violence and abuse child protection and/or residential support or specialist trauma counselling).
- Tertiary qualifications in the areas of Social Work Behavioural Studies or Psychology are essential. Certifications and/or extensive demonstrated experience in the areas of crisis/risk management and leadership would be considered valuable for success in this role.
- Minimum two 2 years of leadership experience overseeing a service delivery team with demonstrated ability to supervise engage retain and support staff in a way that values diversity is culturally competent and prioritises psychological wellbeing.
- Experience in traumainformed counselling and working with victimsurvivors of domestic family and sexual violence highly desirable. Work with men who use domestic and family violence to challenge behaviours and promote accountability is key function of ML I think there needs to be a point around this in requirements.
- Knowledge and understanding of intersectional feminist practice and other relevant practice frameworks used to respond to the gendered nature of violence against women and children.
- Demonstrate knowledge and analysis of the effects causes and dynamics of domestic family and sexual violence.
- Confident and effective interpersonal communication and engagement/consultation skills.
- Established resilient and courageous leadership values to achieve great impact through a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- Experience in providing supportive and culturally safe spaces for diverse groups including First Nations peoples individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds people with a diagnosed disability and members of the LGBTQI community.
- Demonstrated ability to build maintain and enhance relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including both sector and nonsector partners.
- Confident IT and telephone communication skills with a proven ability to multitask and prioritise effectively.
- Significant demonstrated ability to manage complex and competing demands.
Remuneration
- SCHADS Award Level 6 $54.38 $56.78p/hr). Pay point is dependent on qualifications and level of relevant experience.
- 11.5 super.
