Adult Youth & Child Worker (Internal)

Location: Downtown Youth Centre (Kelowna BC)

BGC Okanagan provides safe and supportive spaces where children youth and families can experience new opportunities overcome barriers build positive relationships and build confidence and skills for life. BGC Okanagan is hiring a Youth & Child Worker for our Cultivate program. This position provides one on one support facilitating groups running recreation activities and working alongside a Family Counsellor.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gathers information relevant to the clients problems needs and risks by interviewing observing behavior meeting with caregivers and service providers and using a variety of inventories checklists and questionnaires. Reviews the information gathered to identify problems needs and risks.
  • Develops and implements shortterm issuespecific intervention plans within program guidelines in consultation with the supervisor.
  • Plans prepares and conducts group or individual counselling sessions using techniques such as active listening conflict resolution basic group counselling and basic psychoeducational group methods to resolve the identified problems needs and risks.
  • Provides skill building in areas such as parenting skills anger management or selfmanagement techniques.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the intervention plan reports on clients progress and discusses related concerns with the supervisor in order to resolve identified problems and move towards defined objectives.
  • Outlines services provided by the program and/or organization. Provides information on and referral to other community service providers resources and professionals as required.
  • Maintains related records and statistics and provides reports to the supervisor as required
  • Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of clients with other community service providers professionals and school personnel as required. Accompany clients to meetings and appointments as required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A diploma and 1year relevant experience working with youth in education or social services.
  • Current First Aid or willingness to obtain
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license
  • Successful Completion of Agency Screening Process including a Criminal Record Check

This position is open to internal candidates.

This position requires union membership

Hours: 35 hours per week TuesdaySaturday 10:00 am6:00 pm

Rate of Pay: $ 27.54 per hour
