What will you do

Career Advising:

  • Conducts interviews with clients to complete career and employment assessments and obtains relevant information; this includes assessment of job search skills knowledge and job readiness to establish action plans towards employment.
  • Completes and enters Employability Readiness Assessments into Prospect CRM and government data management systems.
  • Acts as a resource to the Employment Specialist (ES) to provide career coaching for clients in other programs who demonstrate a need for career development job target identification and preemployment skills.
  • Coordinates career coaching sessions (in collaboration with Program leadership ES and Career Advisors) to identify gaps and create action plans.
  • Utilizes assessment tools when needed; assists clients in analyzing and synthesizing career exploration information.
  • As needed delivers orientation to program services (i.e. workshops essential skills services other selfdirected and directed services) and refers to other or complimentary services within Prospect such as service coordination integrated services essential skill building and workshops.
  • Provides ongoing communication with internal staff in regards to status of clients and their service plans including revisions updates and completion.
  • Monitors client satisfaction.

Resource Coordination:

  • Continually conducts environmental scanning: labour market corporations news and economic trends incorporating findings and best practices into program/content.
  • Conducts regular research to become a subject matter expert.
  • Communicates current information to applicable team members on labour market and career development trends and best practices.
  • Provides support to clients in the Employment Resource Centre.
  • Tracks caseloads workshops and assessment tools and maintains client information in files records stats and reports including in Prospects CRM tool.
  • Books ongoing career advising meetings.

Workshops:

  • Develops content for group based workshops on preemployment topics and adjusts and revises materials based on trends. Facilitates workshops based on defined schedules and demand.
  • Works with other departments such as Marketing & Communications and Training Coordinator on branding and consistency of content.
  • Assists in maintaining an online digital and social media presence.
  • Analyzes success and areas of opportunity for content delivery.
  • Trains other staff on delivery of workshops.
  • Maintains workshops and communicates changes.

General:

  • Diligently works to ensure thorough understanding of all Prospects programs.
  • Develops measurement system(s) for the program to assess service delivery and contract requirements.
  • Adjusts information delivery as required.
  • Monitors client goals and completion of action or service plans; communicates with other staff as necessary.
  • Maintains database of career development tools websites and related materials.
  • Acts as central point of contact and subject matter expert for clients support networks referral sources and internal team members.
  • Remains current and knowledgeable with grant funding policies federal legislation pertaining to EI immigration regulations human resources/recruitment practices and the Alberta education system policies/procedures.
  • Complies with company policies/procedures provincial privacy and other job related legislation.
  • Champions Prospects goals vision mission and brand pillars.

Community Relations:

  • Remains active within a network that includes other career development/career transition professionals recruiters workforce planners learning and development/training specialists postsecondary program advisors and HR professionals to stay current on employment trends and activities best practices and professional development opportunities.

What it Takes to Do This Job

  • Postsecondary education in career advising or other equivalent program.
  • 3 years experience in a similar role that is directly related to career development (equivalent combination of education and professional experience will be considered).
  • Career Development professional designation is a strong asset.
  • 3 years direct client relations experience with a focus on assisting individuals with barriers to employment.
  • 1 years experience working with people with disabilities.
  • 3 years of preemployment and essential skill development expertise including:
    • developed job search techniques that involves the ability to tap into the hidden job market;
    • resume and cover letter development; and
    • interviewing skills including knowing the various techniques used and the ability to prep clients.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word Excel PowerPoint) and presentation software; advanced proficiency with internet online and social media platforms.
  • Exceptional oral communication teamwork and interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships engage counsel motivate coach and collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of and experience using career exploration tools and websites with the ability to assist clients in synthesizing and analyzing information to develop realistic action plans and job targets.
  • Experience accessing local labour market information and tools.
  • Exposure to various legislation such as: OH&S Human Rights and Employment Standards with exposure to corporate human resources best practices.
  • Elevated written communication and content development experience (creation of workshop/seminar materials tailoring written communication to various audiences formatting written materials having branding awareness and applying appropriate email etiquette).
  • Experience leading/facilitating different formats of meetings workshops and presentations to various audiences of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to create analytical reports develop and utilize spreadsheets conduct needs and gap analyses collect and analyze stats and action results from findings.
  • Capability to set goals for oneself and assist clients to develop their goals.
  • Innovative with the ability to take initiative to become a subject matter expert in the career advising field.
  • Problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Asset:

  • Exposure to adult education principles gained through experiences in corporate training learning development or equivalent experiences developed from content development presentation/facilitation.
  • Education related to working with varying populations (youth disability mental health trauma etc..
