Job Description Overview - The Lead Teacher is responsible for overseeing and managing the daytoday operations of all aspects of the Program.
- The Lead Teacher shall be supportive of FGRs mission and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Lead Teacher agrees to adhere to all school state diocesan and professional standards of conduct and to hold all information related to all FGR students in the strictest of confidence.
Assessment Testing Scheduling and Modifications - Conducts all initial interviews and evaluation of Program applicants to confirm that the program has the potential to meet students needs.
- Coordinates with appropriate personnel to ensure all proper testing and evaluation is complete and updated as needed.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining each students Accommodation Service Plan schedule of classes modifications and resources both internal and external in a comprehensive fashion so as to ensure the student and their parents the best experience.
- Works with each program participants classroom teachers to modify curriculum as needed to meet each students needs and learning goals.
- Responsible for maintaining all academic records plans communication and materials per state and local requirements.
Teaching Staff Support and Training - Serves as the primary point of contact and acts as the first resource to all classroom and subject area teachers for each program participant.
- Communicates regularly with each participants team of teachers and Peer Mentors.
- Has a presence in every inclusive course each semester ensuring each program participant is active supported and making adequate progress toward established learning goals.
- In conjunction with the principal coordinates annual staff training and professional development in content related to best inclusive teaching and learning practices.
- Encourages colleagues to consider programs and training related to enhanced inclusive and special education curriculum and practices.
- Acts as the teaching staffs primary resource for content methods new technologies and other resources to assist in classrooms.
Peer Mentors - Oversees all aspects of the Peer Mentoring program including recruitment initial and ongoing training weekly monitoring and communication standard setting and grading/evaluation.
- Ensures appropriate effective and goal driven communication between mentor and mentee including direct observations of interactions and between mentor and participant parents.
- Steps in to address any conflicts or disputes reminding mentors that it is their job to assist coach and support not to discipline mentees complete work on their mentees behalf or modify any work beyond what the Lead Teacher and classroom teacher has established.
Direct Instruction - When classroom instruction utilizing modification and peer support is insufficient to meet the learning needs of a program participant in a particular curricular subject(s) area and/or supplementation or additional direct support is required to meet a students needs the Lead Teacher acts as the primary instructor.
Beyond the Classroom - Whenever applicable and appropriate the Lead Teacher works to ensure that each participant can be fully included in spiritual extracurricular and community service events programs and experiences at FGR.
- Develops and executes programming that promotes career college and vocational programs for program students.
- Other duties as assigned by the principal.
Team/Committee Membership Necessary Skills and Experience - Bachelors Degree in Special Education. Preferred: An M.A. in same or related field.
- Minimum of two years experience teaching special education at the high school level preferred.
- Passionate about forming intentional disciples of Jesus Christ.
